One of our local club repeaters is located at a distillery. The company was nice enough to host us. VE4GIM

This distillery provides he world with Crown Royal whisky. Crown Royal Whisky | Canadian Whisky | Crown Royal

If you look at the picture in the Crown Royal link above, the repeater is located on top of the tall building on the right with the steam coming out. (This is where the distillation takes place). To the left are the warehouses that store the whisky in casks for aging.

This got me thinking that not only is Crown Royal a ham radio friendly company, but the whisky is also being exposed to 2 meter RF as it's being produced and aged. Perhaps that's why it's considered by some as a premium Canadian whisky.

But I kind of doubt the RF does anything. :) I just thought I'd throw this out... Something to think about next time you see a bottle of Crown Royal whisky.

I don't imbibe alcoholic beverages, but I believe it was very gracious of the distillery to allow a Ham Radio repeater installation at their facility. Is one of the employees a Ham, or did he know someone who permitted your Club to install the repeater cabinet and antenna at the Brewery?

Very cool, man. Thanks for sharing. Very nice of Crown Royal to allow the repeater. I will definitely remember that when I see or drink some Crown Royal.

I use to live in North Dakota and got a kick out of this on the webpage: "...the largest Icelandic population outside of Iceland." In North Dakota, Minnesota and perhaps South Dakota there are many Norwegians as well. I have found memories as a kid always saying Uffda and eating Mrs. Olson’s lefse (Norwegian flatbread) with butter, sugar and cinnamon.

Never have been to Canada, but have on the border of sorts at the International Peace Garden.

Wish I had of known this earlier. I spent a few months in Manitoba about a year ago for work and drove by the distillery a few times. Would have thrown my call out had I known there was a repeater there.

There is a least one repeater in my area where many users purposely drink alcoholic beverages then get on the air and let out all their feelings. It makes for a good couple hours of comedy until they pass out. So I think amateur radio and whisky can be a good mix.

There used to be 2-3 drunks who hung out on a repeater local to me. One of them died due to his poor health. Another one was banned from the repeater for using inappropriate language and received follow-up letters from the FCC about it. The third was arrested, convicted, and imprisoned for domestic abuse. Yeah, good times.
