To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

if you are looking for a cheap radio with no license fees, which supports the Motorola AES-256 (and the ARC4). there is the TYT UV-MD390 PLUS (be careful, you need the PLUS, not the normal one).

it works 100% with Anytone and Motorola in ARC4 and AES-256.

I have a TYT MD-UV390 PLUS and I "unlocked" the "universal" encryption options. I have been trying to get the ARC4 to work with my Vertex Standard EVX-534 radios which are running enhanced privacy. I understand that to be ARC4 as well. I cannot get them to decrypt each other. All the TX/RX settings are good as they can hear each other but I just get a scrambled digital signal.

I even tried a simple key of "0000000000"

Thoughts?

Do you have an RTL-SDR key that can be used to record DMR frames? (with dsd)

If yes, if you can post a WAV file in ARC4 MD-UV390 PLUS and a WAV file in ARC4 EVX-534, I can tell you if the protocol is compatible with both.

I tried with Motorola and anytone, I can't get them to be heard either with AES256 or with ARC4, the DSD does not identify the TYT encryption, it is always unknown.

My two cents: My Motorola XPR enhanced encryption seems to work with my Hytera md782 units and the Harris momentum mobiles.

My firmware is FIRM S018.016, I can't find the one mentioned, if someone could share it it would be appreciated.
error S19.023 not 119
This is the firmware that is displayed in the radio. apparently TYT doesn't distribute firmware, I don't have the ability to extract the firmware from the radio, you'll have to wait for TYT to release the firmware on their site.
Have you the PLUS version of the MD-UV390? because if it's the normal version (not PLUS) it can't work.

okay. purchased in August 2023 as PLUS, but I do not distinguish anything on the device that relates it to PLUS, we will wait for the long-awaited firmware and a clear version of compatibility with ARC4 that is not yet clarified. The original firmware was replaced by me with openGD, I did not consult the version as I was not aware of the ability of ARC4 upon receipt.

Hello, thanks for the info, loaded on my MD-UV390 I find that it does not show the main screen or respond to buttons, I only hear the sound of turning on and the "TYT" logo is fixed on the screen, if I can read and write CPS, any ideas What can happen? Thank you.

On mine it works without a problem. Have you taken the right MD-UV390 PLUS model with GPS or without GPS depending on your model? are you sure to have an MD-UV390 PLUS radio as it does not work on normal MD-UV390s.

EDIT:

I just had a flash of light in my head! this is due to the firmware OPENGD77 that changed the FLASH memory, the firmware goes crazy because of this. you need to restore the original FLASH memory (before using opengd77) as shown here:

After you have confirmed that you have an official version of firmware which works with your radio, you should use the official CPS to backup the calibration data in the radio
With your radio connected to a PC, using the official CPS, hold Control + T until the "test" screen is displayed
You should also backup your codeplug using the official CPS

  • After the firmware has installed, and you have rebooted the radio, the radio should show the normal OpenGD77 VFO screen, however the frequencies will be some random numbers e.g. 1666.6665MHz because the codeplug area used by the UV380 is probably full of 0xFF bytes.
Note. The official codeplug used by the radio is not supported. You must make a new codeplug using the OpenGD77 CPS, or use an existing GD77 codeplug.
  • You should now backup the Flash memory in your radio and save that file in a safe location

Hello, I see in the shared file that it names the MD-UV380 and 390 without the addition "PLUS", has anyone tested these firmware on the 380 dual-band? My device is 390 September 2023 and it does not work, the screen remains lit with the letters "TYT". I installed the previous version (S18.16.bin) and everything works again without problem.

Thank you TREMENDOUSLY!! (off topic) I flashed my newer uv md-390 to opengd77. The firmware itself is great. Not so much on the newer 10watt plus version and the screen contrast is kinda dim and hard on the eyes. Again, I wholeheartedly appreciate you for posting this firmware as it is EXTREAMLY hard to find. Be well. I got my radio back to stock... 73

Hi all

For PD 502 and PD 505, am I correct in saying that the 3 encryption tick box options are all 'basic' privacy with either 10, 32 or 64 char length?

So no hope of being compatible with moto or anytone enhanced privacy?

thanks.
