I noticed on the Universal Radio website (https://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanners/65686100.html) they have posted that the EBC100 external charger, which includes the new larger BT-954 battery, "is expected 11/20/2018" which is about 3 weeks from now.

Perhaps (purely speculation on my part) we will see some movement of the replacement batteries and battery doors for the early adopters of the SDS100 about that same time.

You've been around here for a while now. You should know better than to try to apply logic to anything that happens in or around this forum. :)

Honestly, they should send the external charger package to the early adopters as a show of good faith. It has the battery and the charger would go a good way on repairing the damage done by putting sales over people by shipping new units with larger batteries before making good on products they had already sold.

There was no "damage," They were exactly what was advertised and ordered.

They could have just as easily kept the smaller battery then created a new sales campaign: "New for the SDS100! A larger, more powerful battery and if you order in the next 20 minutes, we'll throw in the new cover at no charge, a $15.95 value!"

Yes, but they didn't do that, they admitted to a flaw and promised a replacement and gave an anticipated date. They missed that date while selling product that contained the replacement part while ignoring the need to address their promise to fix it for the early adopters. If there truly was a problem with the vendor, the newer radios wouldn't be shipping with the new battery, they would be subject to the same vendor problem. You may not see damage, but their reputation has definitely been damaged in the eyes of everyone here that is making comments about not receiving their battery. "Damage" doesn't always have to be connected to a physical property, it can be theoretical as well.

It's not as much a "flaw" as it is a shortcoming and the only reason you were damaged is that they told you about it. Otherwise, everyone would get the smaller battery, complain about the short life of the battery and be asking for them to come out with a bigger battery.

Having said that, I understand your point, too. I just don't agree.

To avoid further speculation regarding this Uniden SDS100 battery situation, I decided to call Uniden Scanner Support (1-800-297-1023) to get the latest information directly from "the horse's mouth."

I spoke with "Bo" in Uniden Scanner Support today (10-29-2018) at about 2:00 PM EDT. He told me that they do not have an "exact date" for delivery of our replacement batteries and battery covers but he told me that they anticipate having them available for shipment to us "around mid-November." He apologized for the delay.

I also asked about the future availability of the smaller 3,600 mAh BT-953 battery that came with the early-adopter scanners. I was told that the information he had been provided was that the smaller battery WILL NOT be made available and that from this point on you will only be able to get the larger 5,400 mAh BT-954 battery for your SDS100 scanner.

While I was on the phone I also suggested that they sell the EBC100 battery charger separately without including an extra battery with it. Customers like me who will already have 2 batteries (1 small and 1 large) would probably only need the charger without being forced to buy a third battery in order to get the external charger.

FWIW I was thanked for my comments and feedback and was told that my information would be passed along to the appropriate individuals/department at Uniden. If you want to express your comments, concerns and/or suggestions directly to Uniden, give them a call at the number posted above in my post. Sometimes the "squeaky wheel gets the oil" if there are a lot of "squeaks."

That's disappointing to hear. I have the SDS with the "large" battery, and while not cumbersome, I'd certainly would like the option of using the more compact set-up.

As soon as I receive the larger battery & cover, I have no use for the smaller battery & cover, so it will be placed on the forum classifieds to be sold. Perhaps Others that prefer only the larger battery & got their units w/ the smaller battery/cover may do the same, so these get to be recycled to those who would like to have both batteries/covers, rather than just get stuffed away to collect dust.
