bcd396xt antenna question

I have a uniden bcd396xt with a sma to bnc adapter on it with a rubber ducky antenna and when I'm in my car my signal will sound like crap and cut out I have lorain police fire and 911 programmed is all metal antennas bnc better or a 800mhz wideband antenna thanks

your reception is going to depend on how close or far away you are from the transmitter that is transmitting. As they say location, location, location, however an outdoor antenna mounted on you house or vehicle will make a big difference in reception.

Choose an antenna that favors the band the PD is on with the proper connector. Best possible results are with an (outside the vehicle) mobile antenna, again, one that favors the band the PD is on. As another post stated, location is important. Inside your vehicle is not the best place for the antenna. So the first concern is to get your antenna outside of the passenger compartment. At the very least, place the scanner w/antenna on the dash board close to the windshield, but even that won’t help much.
