Wi-fi?

Maybe I'm a little ignorant, so this may be a dumb question...but here goes. What exactly will the Wi-fi feature allow you to do with this scanner?? Would you be able to hear certain channels or talkgroups through your smart phone?

That AND see the display remotely. (well, a virtual display).

There is a ton of potential with the connectivity.

Something else that would be neat is a version of proscan for ipad and be able to send your configs back to 536 via the wifi. Hint hint

But that's it for now, right? It still has to be plugged into a PC running Sentinel to download the RR database?

You would think with a wifi connection to the internet the scanner could connect directly to RR and update itself... I am planning on mounting a BCD536HP in my car but my windows machine is a desktop... no real way to bring it outside and into the car to update the scanner. Luckily you seem to be able to remove the SD card and put it into an SD card reader and run sentinel on that.

I am writing a 3-part script, right now. But, it is about to be <30 degrees in my garage, and that severely hampers weekend video production. I might have to take over the kitchen. :)

Do the videos sitting in front of a fireplace with a pipe in your hand and dressed like the Most Interesting Man in the World. "I don't always monitor TxWARN, but when I do, I prefer P25."

Thanks UPMan
The video always make the time go by faster and help out a lot when it comes to the operation of the radio. Like many of us, we already have our files ready to upload and are just waiting for them to ship.

If you go to the 16:30 point on the video, you'll see Upman discussing the three separate ways the WIFI feature can be used:

Uniden New Scanner Launch - YouTube

1: When connected to a WIFI at home, a smartphone/tablet can be used as a remote for the scanner. In essence this feature does for scanners what cordless phones did for hard-wired phones.

2. In a vehicle and "paired" with a smartphone/tablet, the smartphone/tablet will act as a wireless remote control head for the scanner. The smartphone/tablet will do for the BCD536HP what the RH96 does for the *96 scanners.

3. When connected to a WIFI at home (and that home WIFI is connected to the internet) you can be "any where in the world as long as internet connectivity is available" you can use your smartphone/tablet to listen to/control your scanner back at home. Effectively you are becoming your own "private feed provider".

Let's do a little dissecting here. . .

Upman is doing this for us at home, over the weekend and thus on his own time for our benefit. Sounds like an awful considerate thing to me and I sure appreciate the effort!

As I said, there is a ton of potential. It's possible you would not be able to update directly, but you might. We will just have to see what options Uniden comes up with. What you mentioned might be one option.

That said, I would think you could update the scanner remotely, too - even if it's not using the scanner to update. Run Sentinel on the same network and update the scanner that way.

But, as you said, it's trivial to remove the SD card and reprogram it (or better yet, replace the SD card with your (updated) backup copy and then update the card you removed. The scanners come with 4GB cards. I have already purchased 32GB cards (the max the scanners are reported to support) just to have lots of room for recordings.

Radio ID

Does anyone know if this radio will display the P25 radio ID numbers on conventional channels, or will the radio have to be "fooled" into thinking it is a single channel trunk like the earlier radios?

How about avoiding the nonsense?

A recording was posted weeks ago proving the radio is much better at decoding than either the HP1 or x96XT line.

Threre were all kinds of Videos promoting they HP1 none ever said anything about simulcast problems or that the Extreme would cost another 100 dollars
