Well it was rock steady when suddenly i went to update the database and sentinel froze the 536 rebooted and asked for a yes or no and my computer froze. Then i discover the micro disk was screwed and suddenly on reboot of my machine, check disk had to do its thing on my hard drive. Very weird. It took me several attempts to reformat the card with sd formatter. Got everything back together and working. Tried to update again but this time just for chips and giggles i selected update firmware. Bingo!! every thing froze up again. But this time i didn't loose the SDcard. I guess i won't try updating anymore. :(

I'm curious, what computer model and Windows version are you using? You appear to be having a lot of trouble just connecting to the radio on multiple occasions. Am I correct?

I am now using a Dell laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium with service pack 2

I was using my Mac with windows running under parallels but gave up.

Do you get the USB Cable Detected, Select USB mode: Mass Storage="E" / Serial Port="." display right away? Also, does the computer give the connected sound and display the USB symbol on the taskbar?

How about with device manager open and watching the display. Do you see the USB device appear in the list? Any error messages? I'm wondering if you have an intermittent connection.

New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) Trunking System, Statewide, New York - Scanner Frequencies

Been listening to this system. Had no problem NFM, no problem before the firmware update, and I think the decode is actually a little better after the update. I will be checking out the following two systems and compare them:

Rockland County Public Safety Communications System Trunking System, Rockland County, New York - Scanner Frequencies

Connecticut State Police Trunking System, Statewide, Connecticut - Scanner Frequencies

UPMan..

We have been dealing the scanner continuously going into Mass Storage mode in the below thread. We have the 1.03.00 firmware installed and it made no change for us. Do you know if the next firmware addresses anything related? Please see:

http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-scanners/284511-bcd536hp-usb-keeps-disconnecting.html

This is the reply I got from Uniden reference by support ticket to notify them of this issue:

Your Question:
BCD536HP When the scanner is in serial mode, it keeps dropping out of serial mode and going to the MASS STORAGE screen. This needs to be fixed.

Our Solution:
Thank you for using our system.
Unfortunately this would require the radio to be sent in for service per the guidelines below.

Well, they have my radio for the headphone repair. Bets on whether the one I get back still has this serial problem?

the usb cable I got with my 536 didn't work at all threw it away and got a good one.....

I threw a new one at the problem didn't help.

I gave up and stuck it back in the box. If they come out with a good fix then i will try again. I have plenty of other radios that work just fine using existing equipment here.

Good Luck to all of you

I was having terrible break ups and distorted audio on my 436 after updating the firmware (P25 phase 1 system). I used the info in this thread and went back to the previous version and the system is sounding great again. I attribute this to possibly an increase in sensitivity, which causes my simulcast sites to come in better causing the issue, and not nessessarily the firmware. I tried the attenuation option, but other than making the signal 2 bars instead of 5, it didnt make any difference.

Ill hang on the previous version until I get my 536 back, and need the extra sensitivity in the mobile/portable relm.

Thanks to those that posted the info on doing this.
