Can the PC/IF cable for the Pro 95 be used with the Pro 83?
Is the Pro 83 software free, and where would I find it?
Thanks in advance.

I hope my PC doesn't blow up for saying this, but I don't like Yahoo. I have found this website to be the best, and yes that does include Yahoo forums. I do appreciate your reply however!

The PRO-83 uses the light gray cable (Cat #20-298) $19.97 Not sure if that's what the PRO-95 used, but the same cable is used for most all the newer Radio Shack GRE scanners, PRO-97, PRO-96, PRO-2055, PRO-2096, to name a few.

It's interesting to note the price was recently lowered from $24.99, to $19.97, and if you can believe what some say, when a price ends in .97, the item is slated to be discontinued. Possibly because they've recently come out with a USB cable for the new scanners.

You're right to avoid anything to do with Yahoo! Yahoo is in bed with SBC (now AT&T), and they're privacy policy (or should I say lack of privacy) scares the crap out of me! They'll sell everything they can find out about you to anyone willing to pay for it! And recently it has become apparent that AT&T even has secret back rooms manned by the NSA! Whoa!

Thanks M M. The cable I got for my 95 is gray, and the ports look the same. I'm just being lazy tonight. Do you know if there is free software (or a trail) for the 83, and where I would find it? THANKS

A lot of folks don't know this, but you can easily turn off the marketing preferences on Yahoo; I belong to numerous Yahoo groups, and have never gotten a lick of spam from any of their advertisers since doing the procedure.

As for free software, once again, the wiki is your friend - specifically

http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/Pro-83

Load83 is still available, I think, from the PRO-83 yahoo group.

Since the procedure to disable the marketing and ad preferences is OT, send me an email (private or to my ka3jjz address) and I'll outline how to do it. Takes about 2 minutes, tops.
