There's a possibility that when the rest of the CAN forum members see these forums that it could drive up usage.
If there were enough 'lurkers' out there that simply did not bother posting since there appears to be no relevant info for their area maybe it would promote activity. At the very least maybe it would cause some more hits for somebody searching for scanning info for the first time.

There seems to be a handful of members that frequent the forums on a regular basis, my green light is always on, doesn't mean I'm in front of my pc constantly. However, there are rare users who post stuff in the Eastern Forums and you see - username, joint date: Jan 2005 posts: 12. They post simple questions like "What's the frequency for..." and never to be heard from again. A new forum may only attract the same regular users. In many of the US forums I see threads like Roll Call, what exactly is that ? I've never seen one in the Eastern (maybe I don't remember one) so maybe one should be started and see how many users come out of their shack to count themselves in. High turnout = new forum...low turnout = maybe not.

...just my two cents.....

I've read over all the posts and looked at maps yet cannot come to a conclusion that will satisfy a decent majority (and/or myself).

Should we go with a Quebec/Ontario combination forum or split them both? One way or the other they will be split off.

If I split off Quebec and Ontario, create an Atlantic forum, then what should the remaining provinces be formed in to?

Just my thoughts

Here's a way to split up Canada for forums:
Do all the Atlantic Maritimes together [Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and PEI] because they are always together and it looks like they will be sharing an emergency radio system hopefully by 2012.
Next, do Quebec all by itself because, you know, they are a Nation within a Country and shouldn't be paired up with any others. They have their own ways of doing things, and they will surely remind you of it too.
Then to Ontario. There is so much going on there they should stand alone. They are where the Federal government hangs out and that keeps everyone busy.
Next, you have Manitoba and Saskatchewan. They should be done separately. They have their own Providence wide systems and there are some true scanner people from both Provinces.
Now comes Alberta. They are a Province in their own world. Alberta is the Texas of Canada, vast ranch lands and oil cities, cowboys at heart.
And don't for get B.C. in all her majestic beauty. They are the vacation spot of Canada both summer and winter. In the summer, lots of activity on the coast and the winter, great ski and snowmobiling action, and the dreaded avalanches.
Last are all the Territories where land is great and people sparse. They stretch from East to West and to the far North.
This is just my view on how to split up Canada for forums. I've lived here for the last few years now (from the USA) and this is how I see and feel how Canada forums would be if they were thrown up in the air and the people started grouping them on their own. It just seems to be the natural way that it would all fall into place all on it's own.
I do hope this will help you some in your search of how to split things up.

FYI Wayne: see Provinces and territories of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is how I envision it:

Atlantic Canada (Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island) - Atlantic Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quebec - Largest french speaking province. Second largest population base in Canada. Very beneficial for them to have their own spot on RR.

Ontario - The largest group of people on RR. A sub Greater Toronto Area forum would be helpful. Not sure how you'd go about breaking up the rest of the province.

Canadian Prairies (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta) - Canadian Prairies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

British Columbia - They already have their own group ScanBC.com, so throw 'em a bone for their own section here.

Canadian Territories (NorthWest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut) - Provinces and territories of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That's my toonies worth EH!

I usually check RR daily, but just picked up on this thread last night and read it over. I have noticed for awhile how much more the Canadian forums were used compared to some of the US states. I had a suggestion that would be very similar to robsterw's recommendation, so with that I will second his motion. All in favour say EH!

FYI in the east we are not the Atlantic Maritimes provinces, but the Maritmes (NB, NS, PE) or the Atlantic provinces (NB, NS, PE and NL). Just passing that along so people will know more about us. Also it is the 3 Maritime provinces that are exploring the idea of a shared radio system.

Give the Maritime Provinces their own, give Quebec its own and Ontario its own.

I cant speak for the rest of Canada, some members want more forums, some dont.

I like your views on Canada, esp Alberta and Quebec.

I support the idea of sub catorgizing the forums. Ontario yes should be by itself, then have the Maritimes in one section. The remaining provinces that have little traffic (posts) should be put together. Have quebec by itslef as well. Just my 2 cents worth

BC -> Prairies -> Ontario -> Quebec -> Atlantic

I think you'll find a lot of Federal departments structure themselves in a similar fashion to that, with the territories together with either BC or the prairies.

This would get my vote.

That sounds good without too much ballooning. Though I need to know which territories/provinces fall within each of those so I can write the descriptions.

Colby, post again and that will get deleted too. I get the point already.

BC = British Columbia
Prairies = Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba
Ontario and Quebec = self-explanatory
Atlantic = New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland & Labrador

The three territories (Yukon, Northwest Territory, and Nunavut) are probably best in the Prairies section, as they're geographically closest.

The only head scratcher I had was much of Nunavut is in the central time zone so it makes perfect sense but socially most of Baffin is more tied to Ontario and Quebec. Can't debate too many factors though or you would be here all day. I think you have described the most logical breakdown.

May i suggest that:

1. Yukon be with BC
2. Northwest Territory be with Alberta
3. Nunavut be with Ontario or one of the other prairie provinces
