Now since the Oklahoma forum doesnt have its own RR tavern, this might get closed. But theres not really a forum for finding things in oklahoma so i figured id ask here.

My question is, anyone know of a public access to the canadin river(in the okc/norman, or +/- 20 miles)? im not talking about the oklahoma river, just the main river body, to either fish, walk, or wildlife viewing.

If you can help thats great, if not, or this gets closed, i cant chage that, its a simple question that noone should get upset about.
Thank you

PS. if this has to pretain to radios i might want to sit on the river and be able to string out 1300ft random wire of HF. :)

There is a Canadian River that forms the border between Cleveland and McClain Cos and there is the North Canadian River that runs through OKC and environs. They join up at Lake Eufala. The former is often, incorrectly, called the "South Canadian" and the latter is, apparently, the "Oklahoma River", but I believe that's just it's marketing name.

Which are you talking about? If the former, there are spots in Norman where you can get pretty close, like down at the south end of Jenkins St.

There is public access above Lake Overholser on the North Canadian. Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. I have been there several times and haven't seen a soul. Walk in access from either Countyline Rd north of NW 39th, or Morgan Rd north of NW 63rd. I believe there is access on the east side of the river also, like off of 50th west of Council.

Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge? I wonder why i never heard of this before, I did a search a pulled up a few things on it, must not be that popular, or devoted to hunting? Either way thank you for the information both of you.

Just west of the Canadian River Bridge on NE 23rd is a gate on the south side of 23rd that gives you access to the river. Folks on 4-wheelers and such are seen there often.
