RFI guy: yeah I heard the Chinese own Volvo now as well. I also heard a Chinese company is trying to resurrect the Saab brand as well. Lots of hardcore Volvo fans really say that 2000 was the last year of the "real" Volvos i.e the RWD ones. Past 2000, I don't think they made a RWD car. The 93 mode year was the first of the FWD 5 cyl motor which some despised, but honestly they are very solid cars. I don't know too many cars from that era that can go 200K+ just with routine scheduled maintenance.
Bottom line is routine maintenance. On most cars, just doing scheduled maintenance and general upkeep will keep the car running for a long time. Lots of people just are too interested in either getting a new car every 2-3 years or other issues in their life to bother maintaining a car.
