This must be a very recent move, I don't really get why #24 would have an Quint in there station. I don't think the Tender is still there, I can't see AHS pulling a medic out of #24. And besides the new Quints cross man the bush buggy's and there were only 6 firefighter on scene. I wonder whats in #19 now.. maybe the new Hazmat and possibly #24's Tender?? Maybe the Tender moved more north.. like #20 or #35 Station?? a Tender in the north would be nice
Yeah, seems like an odd spot for a quint that's for sure.

Just as I type this, E24 is en route to a call and it is one of the new quint radio IDs.

I'll keep an ear out for the other apparatus and reply with what I find.

Welcome to the Thread Stevoeman and pump1974!!!

I just wanted to clarify... I was assuming Engine #24 ((E4300) - 2000 E-One Cyclone II / Superior) was still in Station #24, and I thought that the Quint and Bush Buggy were added to the Station. Therefore there would be the Engine, Quint, Tender, Bush Buggy and AHS medic in the Station.. I didn't think all the trucks plus firefighters and paramedics could fit in the hall.. but thinking about it, they probably could make it work!!

Pump1974, do you happen to know/remember the shop number on the Quint?? and did you happen to see the Bush Buggy in the station when you were there?? Or would you suspect that the 6 firefighters are also cross-manning the Tender??

Also since the 75 foot Pierce Quint became a spare, does anyone know if (E4300) - 2000 E-One Cyclone II / Superior) is running as Engine #11??

Great pictures Engine 4!!

Since the new dispatch system went in I have lost the ability to listen to CFD. I am currently sourcing to purchase a new scanner with trunking capability. I know get with the times. I really apprceiate all the info you guys have been posting as it allows me to stay current with the new trucks. Once I get my scanner I should be out photographing and can start contributing again. Its hard to get the Apparatus photos I want when I don't know when they've left the station so I am quite limited at the moment. I did swing by the maintenacne facility a couple weeks back, got some great shots of old aerials all lined up.

Cheers,

John

Does anyone know where #21 Rescue has gone!?!?!?
There has been a much bigger apparatus shuffle lately that I am still trying to get all figured out. (which is tough with actually having to get some work done during the day :D)

What I know so far:

- There is now a Rescue 32. I am pretty certain they simply moved R22 up the street.
- 29 now has an Aerial that is a new Quint, but referred to as Aerial 29, not as an Engine.

Not much info I know, but I'll post more as I get it all figured out.

Has CFD considered getting some Sutphens or Ferrara ariels? My area in St Catharines Ontario loves the Sutphens. The platforms seem to have 2 controllable nozzles on it.

Here is a video of a 95 foot Sutphen doing mutual aid to a fire in Niagara on the Lake. Fast forward to 7 minutes. Niagara-on-the-Lake October 25 Queen Street Fire - YouTube

This is a picture of a 100 foot version sitting at Station 6

I don't know of any fire departments in Canada that currently use Ferrara but FDNY among other big ones in the US are certainly hooked and buying quite a few. Phoenix FD I believe is testing a unit called the Strong Arm which is a telescopic forcible entry spray unit lol but looks quite interesting. Turkey bought a bunch already as did China I believe.

Here is a video of it Ferrara - Strong Arm - Short Clip - YouTube

Woah!!! Thanks for all the up-dates guys!! I'm kinda wondering if there are more then 8 Smeal Quints in the city now... Obviously Station 1 didn't get there new Quint.
I don't think the Rescue is going to last in 32 station for very long.. I think they'll be heading back to 22 and 27's Quint will be going back to 32

Calgary, like Edmonton and Toronto and Vancouver, etc.. All have awesome contracts with Safetek Emergency Vehicles. Safetek supply's Smeal, SVI, and other fire truck manufacturers. And quite frankly everyone from every department that I have talked to LOVES there Smeal Aerials/Tower Ladders and Quints. They take alot, hold alot and still keep on going; even after 10-20 years. Smeal Pretty well owns the Canadian market. And CFD like'd the Smeal ladders they purchased in the 90's

Can you give some more input why you feel this may be a temperary move? We all know 27 will get a new station eventually but would they really put it back in 32. I was thinking it was a smart move seeing as 27's service area is the south end of the airport still. Being stationed at 22 thats a shorter distance of travel for any calls in their area. Also, I was totally excited to finally have an aerial in my neighbourhood :) Either way, I always find it interesting how the city decides their apparatus placement.

Thanks,

John

I was looking at it from a first alarm response standpoint... Say if you had a fire in 32's or better yet 38's first run area, you might not be able to get an Aerial out of 22 and up to 38 in 8 minutes, even with Stony trial. Also haveing in a Rescue in 22 is better I think, becuase you have more major road ways and industry in 22's first run area that may require extraction tools, and there closer to the ever popular Rescue 4, so they can always quickly run into. You also have Rescue 31 to the northwest..

27's new station will be located just south west of the current Station 38, and I'm pretty sure they will incorporate some ARFF apparatus in there station.
The whole putting a the Quint in 32 is just my opion. It's complete up to the CFD ofcourse lol.
Does anyone know where 27's Rosenbauer Engine went to?
Thanks in advance
