I was listening to the local FO this morning and calling in to dispatch was a MIKE25XX unit. I've heard this particular unit before and believed him to be a Marine Interdiction Agent. Today though he led me to believe he might not be.

First my assumption is that any AMO Agent usually sticks to their normal job responsibilities (example: a Marine Interdiction Agent only drives boats/watercraft vessles). However, he said he was going to be patrolling I-10 (the interstate highway). This leads me to believe that he is not a Marine Interdiction Agent OR that these MIKE units have normal vehicle patrol duties also.

Can anyone fill me in...?

MANY years ago, Air Interdiction Agents (not sure about Marine) had take-home vehicles and conducted surveillance and investigations on cases that had a nexus to their primary duties. I heard that this practice stopped a while back. This applies to the south Florida area and I don't know if it was a nationawide thing. Maybe they are at it again.
