One thing, of many, I found odd about Debbie, there was a call to Baltimore Pike and 476, the way she pronounced it was different. She said "Four hundred and seventy six and Baltimore Pee Kay", for 476 and Baltimore PK.
Difficult on the intersection calls. I manually entered every single 10th of a mile NB and SB on 476 and 95 to make her say it correctly. As I hear these things pop up true them in. I'll have to add that one.

Made some increases to the dispatchers last week. Letting that soak in for a bit. Seems a lot better you're right. Its still a learning curve for a lot of users also. Some users eat the mic some won't remove the mic from the cradle. Its very difficult with 4000 users to be perfect so we try to get as close to the middle ground as possible. Debbie had a reduction to her levels today. Should be more even keel with the rest of the transmissions now.
The 4,000 users need to be re-trained about how to properly use their mics - lots of old habits and misinformation out in the wild. Intelligible communications begins with the user. Many people would be surprised about how often replay on the console is required to decode someone's message / speech - it is frequent.

I can pick up the system with my G5 from Parkesburg by the library (Minch Park) with good copy on the audio. So far that's the furthest I've been able to get it. As a listener I must say the system is working pretty well. Seems not all of the out of county mutual aid partners have the new system programmed in just yet. RID 200 is coming up whenever something is being patched in. The legacy fire channels (mainly Fires 3 and 4 I believe) are being used to patch in some off system users. JeffSTAT was being patched into the new system from legacy Fire 3 the other day for a landing zone in Middletown. I believe Montco 23 (Bryn Mawr) is still using Fire 4 when they respond into Radnor and they're being patched in - I have to try tuning to those channels when I notice it. I suppose eventually the out of county fire and EMS agencies will have the system programmed into their existing radios since everyone is now on the same band.

Seems when the system first went live the old consoles were being patched into the system (hence the 200 RID for everyone) but now the new consoles are in place and there are unique ID's. Also noticed 220 is no longer coming up as a wildcard on my G5 so I believe the issue with the dispatch side not being encrypted has been resolved. Just today noticed the RID for Delco Debbie changed from 9004 to 3542000 (something along those lines). Haven't seen RID 9036 in a while (I believe that was Steve's radio).

I've been hanging out on the Event and Training talkgroups lately when testing audio levels and such. Now that evening is live I shifted off of the main groups when testing. 200 is the Zetron core ID. Originally all consoles shared it but we went to individual IDs per position instead. Now you will see 200 when the P25 call is generated by the Zetron core and not an individual dispatch console position. This would be things like patches and pre canned alert tones.

That's good, some transmissions, even from the dispatcher, are very low, while some of the officers sound like they are screaming, not a lot, but some.
Like Al Pacino said in the locker room. “It’s the six inches in front of your face”. Hold the mic 6” from your lips especially if noise canceling is a thing.

I picked up delco up at Ursinis college a couple weeks ago. Once I’m on ridge pike in the nose bleed section of the ridge, I can pick up delco, Philly, bucks and Chester until the dip down into norristown.

Steve, are the Sheriffs channels going to be on the P25 system? I'm still hearing them still on the 4xx band channels.

They have a talkgroup on the new system but they so far they have been sticking primarily to their old UHF.

While I had my radio on the zone with public works channels earlier today I noticed the legacy Command channel is still being used. It is patched to the Countywide PD talkgroup (200) on the TRS. Seems the legacy channels got removed from the database a little prematurely.

While listening to a job in UD today, mention was made of going to a fire ground frequency, ie, simplex channel if comms issues persisted. Are these fire ground channels the old (analog) 500 Mhz channels 11-14, or are they in the 700 Mhz range?

If they are 700 Mhz, please advise the freq/mode/NAC/PL. Thanks!

Did they say what comm issues they were having? There's a tower in the township, i can't imagine they'd have coverage issues.
Without knowing anything about it, I'd bet people trying to key up when others are talking and getting bonked out is a learning curve people aren't used to.

The issue was a dead spot in the basement. There were several transmissions that were garbled and dropped out mid sentence. It can happen despite having a nearby tower. But they should definitely be prepared to encounter dead spots and train to use an alternative when necessary.

PhillyFireFeed is absolutely correct. The communications were from below grade, in a basement. It was never a matter of two units trying to speak at once.

This would be a potential challenge for any system. Lack of a simplex alternative would be serious oversight in pre-planning.

There are simplex channels in the radios, I just don't have the details on specific frequencies, tones, etc yet.
