If you get LNK it usually means that it cannot properly decode the datastream on the voice channel. Maybe because of a too weak signal or interferencies. It could also be that some systems move radios to a voice channels to transmit large chunks of data but are probably not used that often in systems so the most probably cause are some sort of receive problem in the scanner.

Hi darthgarlic,

From ---> Easier to Read BCD436/536HP Digital Scanner Manual

which now also covers the SDS100/SDS200

LNK appears when data is received on a voice channel in Receive/Hold Modes.
DAT appears when data is received on a control channel in Receive/Hold Modes.

Just go to the linked manual and do a search. That is a great resource!

Dave
I did search the manual under Link not LNK, and Data not DAT, Damn three letter acronyms.

Not true...it can PROPERLY decode, however digital TVX causes interpaths, which is not the scanner's fault. It is also not interference, requiring a filter he would suggest

LNK is the repeater hang time after a voice call. Uniden scanners have this odd way of monitoring where they sit on the LNK before they revert back to the control channel. Actual commercial radios revert immediately.

OP had the display toggle between DATA and LNK and where not after a monitored voice call.
This is typical for when the scanner receives the info at the control channel of what frequency to go to for the voice call but cannot properly decode the data at the voice frequency. It could be other causes but this is probably the most common cause.
