I live in East Amwell South Hunterdon and was looking into buying a Baofeng DM-1701 for DMR . I travel and in some areas I see there are active code plugs but I was wondering if anyone can give me insight on if from home the DMR will be useful. I am replacing my Generation 1 Baofeng Dual Band from like 10 years ago. If there is not coverage of active use then I might just get a Mil Spec Dual Band to replace it. I do some outdoor rescue so looking for the best option at an affordable price.

You should be in reasonable range of the KD2ARB machine.

If you must go the CCR route, the Anytone 878 is a much better radio. It costs a bit more but it's worth it.

Exactly what Tom said. I own both an 878 & a Motorola 7550e & love them both. My 878 is my nightstand 'Swiss-Army-Knife' HT right now, especially since I band-modified mine to go to 520 on UHF.

Pete's repeater is at his house. I'm not sure what kind of range it has. Martinsville's antennas were damaged in that freak evening line of thunderstorms that was late November or early December. Warren might be another choice. Trenton is possibly good for that area as well.
