The military has lots of places to test drones that do not involve populated areas. They also do not want people looking at their experimental operations.
If you have read the story about the guy arrested for the Vandenburg drone incident, it mentions that it was detected by a drone detection system and afterwards he had it in his pocket, small yet detected.
Also, flying distances requires autonomous control or decent comms (cell, satcom). In a rural area, pulling cell data from a local tower would likely be in the realm of possibility for the various providers (they keep track of data for billing). Satcom direct to cell is out there too, Starlink has been used to control drones in Ukraine war.

Some good info here by somebody who actually knows something.
3. Yes, they are a threat, and I wrote a master's thesis on this topic years ago.

5. Shooting them down may not be the best solution because there ARE other options. Expanding on this point would enter into classified arenas.

6. Destroying them over a highly populated area can be hazardous for many reasons.

We live in a nation blanketed in a free flow of information.
Anyone with a reasonable amount of intelligence and reasoning can surmise all the possibilities.
If this was our military or domestic contractors testing, they would be flying these out in the wide open unpopulated areas of the Midwest.
This tells me that they’re being launched in international waters off of Jersey.

But a massive grouping like that reminds me of the B-17 bomber air raids of WW2.

So then “no hazard to the public”?

Well it appears as night flights to investigate drones of State Police have been grounded due to collision risk. This makes sense. Those same ships fly aeromedical and LEO support missions. The same collision risk would be present for other flights too.

Both South and North Medivac TG’s on ICS were silent overnight for the State helicopters. Private contractors were flying.

We will see over next few nights if they fly any missions. They may very well be grounded.

Edit Add: Osprey with support helicopter over Western Union County, Eastern Somerset from South to North about 11:00 at 1400’ Hex -2add66. I thought these were grounded.

Ferry flight or something important?

I agree that the military has a lot of abandoned areas they can test weapons like this, advanced drones that have multiple uses that I'm sure would amaze but at some point they have to have real time testing, we hope to God that weapons like this would not be involved invading Russia in the Ukrainian conflict but I definitely think they would be valuable against Iran and other rogue terrorist Nations.

The best place to do real time testing would be populated areas. Of course drones could be released in swarms by a large cargo jet or Mothership just like paratroopers are.

Drone operators as shown above can pretty much fly a drone from anywhere. As I say I just hope that these weapons can be deployed to where they need to be ASAP.

As I say I would certainly hope it's not in Ukraine. I think we can expect soon enough that there will be an armistice and a demilitarized zone similar to North and South Korea in Ukraine and the hostilities and killing will end. But that's not a topic for here.

I see v22 ospreys running up and down the coast off the beach in northern Monmouth county all the time. On another note, there was an incident a couple of weeks ago where North Star could not land and pick up the patient due to interfering drone activity so the job was canceled due to unsafe condition

So if they don't know nothing, clearly they must know something? Always read WHAT they say, not what you THINK that they say. Double negatives are an excellent way to confuse the recipient of information.
We have this Secret Squirrel agency Department of Homeland Security, formed after 9/11 which has ballooned out of control. They have their fingers into everything and apparently can tell local agencies like NJSP to stand down. You can bet that the DHS has contracted a slew of shell companies to fly these drones and collect electronic and photo-metric intel on US citizens. This happened over Colorado a couple years ago and was met with same federal "befuddlement". Also spotted over Elgin Illinois, and more recently in Florida. I am pretty sure I heard one of these a week ago hovering.

You know DHS must be behind this because why else is nothing being done....

Hopefully that all changes when Kristi Noem gets in there. The same with the other agencies too.
Its going to be much worse with her weaponizing the department as in STASI techniques. Be sure to carry evidence of your citizenship on your person at all times and don't fail to pledge allegiance to the US of A and a specific diety whenever requested required.

When I said “Chop Chop lets have at it.😳” on post #1, I had no idea this would create such a buzz.

So then Northstar and Southstar missions, all missions, can we see if they fly any missions tonight? I will see what I can contribute. ICS and ADSB.

My .02 a guess, may be grounded from sunset to sunrise, that is a big loss.

If so when they fly nights again will tell us “the coast is clear”.

Do Drones of larger size have to be registered with the FAA ? seems i read that somewhere , and if they are registered , they know who it is , if no then Law or military should be able to handle it .

This is a great thread, even though I am very comfortable with what I think exactly what it is it is interesting to hear all the different opinions.

Like casting a pebble in the water Bob, what a story, lets see what we can do with this.

At this time a CH-53E Super Stallion is heading out along the coast of Ocean County near LBI. This heavy according to internet has significant capabilities.

I note with interest it is dusk.

That helicopter passed right over my beach here in Sea Bright at approximately 100 ft above sea level a little while ago heading south
