So I've had a play with the samples.....the CC wav confirms it is a NXDN4800 trunked control channel that you are listening to. But it wasn't as straightforward to decode as I might have expected: I had to force dsd+ to decode NX48 (ie run "dsd -fn") and not just rely on dsd to figure it out on its own. I my experience that smacks of poor/on the edge signal strength for the received signal.

Then trying the other samples I get nowhere. Just listening to them they sound really noisy and are just about audible over the noise floor. No decodes at all.

So I think you need to get a better antenna setup/better signal strength before we can crack this one. Does your scanner have a strength meter? How many bars is it showing? Can you get your antenna higher/up into clear space? Is your cable ok?

Also FWIW I've found an SDR dongle will give you significantly poorer signal strength capability than a scanner (but then what would you expect from a few dollars of kit).

Good news. I heard my first voice decode and it sounds wonderful, much better than the P25 stuff from my HP1. It was on a frequency from the Prairie Grove site. I had only been monitoring the Fayetteville site, which by the way shows a solid 4 bars when I scan in conventionally on the Home Patrol (unfortunately I don't have a sig meter on the tapped scanner). I haven't had a chance to put the Prairie Grove freqs in the HP to see what kind of sig it gives but I bet it's going to be decent.
I first was able to decode that control channel when I cranked the line input all the way up to the max. Only then did I see the first scroll of text from DSD+. So since I was maxed out on line input, I switched to the mic in and was able to find the apparent sweet spot. Of course the noise when there's no signal shows 100% on the level indicator in the hdr above the cmd line window. The voice clips I heard were so brief I didn't get a chance to notice what the level showed, but I'm not touching the input slider until I get all the sites entered and actually see what channels are active.
Thanks a bunch for everyone's effort...I think I'm well on my way to successful DSD+ decoding.

Since DSD continues to be developed in Linux with a secondary Windows port, does anyone know if DSD+ is available for Linux? I need to get this running on my netbook so I'll be able to monitor the pwr company during pwr outages. Unfortunately my netbook is running Ubuntu and purchasing a licensed Windows install would cost more than the netbook is worth. I've considered installing DSD 1.7, but I'm unable to determine whether the ability to decode trunked NXDN was ever added. Everything I've read seems to indicate the upgrade was mainly to add Dstar?

John749.....I don't believe DSD+ is available for anything other than windows. But it is possible to modify the Linux version of DSD to decode trunked NXDN (I'm pretty sure it doesn't decode Icom IDAS trunked though).

If you can post a better sample of the voice traffic traffic I could test this for you. I'd guess it'll work ok on the voice traffic though.

Right, once I successfully decoded some voice it became apparent that neither of those two burst samples contained any voice. Apparently there're almost continuous short bursts of non-voice transmissions on some of the non CC freqs. I can only guess those are data bursts, but they don't decode at all. The actual voice xmissions are of course longer and of various lengths, and decode quite nicely most of the time. Unless there's been a storm or some major outage event, there really isn't much voice traffic, but I'll try to capture some raw for you next time they start talking.
BTW, I downloaded the new DSD 1.7 for Windows and couldn't get it to run. Says it couldn't open /dev/audio?

Hmm, rather remarkable difference. Guess I may need to further explore ways of getting Windows on my netbook...the DSD on Ubuntu is barely intelligible. Make sure you aren't blocking the Flash / Silverlight or whatever the hell it uses. But it definitely does work.

1. The link I provided works -- I verified that it does
2. Feel free to download it and upload it somewhere else for public consumption if you want

Of course, there is only one "legitimate" place to download it, and it is the link listed in my previous post in the wiki. Any other upload was not a direct upload from the author, to my knowledge, and would not be "as" trustworthy.

Display TGs on DSD+

The regular DSD program automatically displays TGs, but they don't show up for me when using DSDPlus.
I cannot find any switches in the Readme file, other than a reference to the 'S' - key, which doesn't do anything. Any ideas anyone?

If -v4 doesn't give you talkgroups, then you are SOL. Try -v4 though.

I downloaded the new DSD 1.7 for Windows and couldn't get it to run. Says it couldn't open /dev/audio?

Yeah it should use /dev/dsp. Try: dsd -i /dev/dsp -o /dev/dsp

There is also a mototrbo.bat that does exactly that.
