Yes they are using OpenSky. They will be migrating to a P25 network in the next few years. See the link below for details. Don't expect to see much change in the Carolinas for a while, the focus is in Florida and Indiana right now. OpenSky cannot be monitored by any scanner and I don't believe there are any computer decoder programs for it either.

Thanks much. I wasn't sure if I wasn't missing anything. Hopefully migrating to P25 won't be very far out.

Signs point to most of IN/OH Duke has already switched to P25, and also a lot of FL has (probably more than has even been reported yet).

So I would think activity would start to happen in NC or SC sooner than a few years down the road.

Just like the rest of the Duke P25 system, they are using TDMA control channels, which currently cannot be decoded by any scanner. Only DSDPlus, OP25 and the BlueTail Technologies P25RX device can decode these control channels as of 8/2021.

Just be on the lookout for strange signals on Duke frequencies that you cannot decode with a scanner. Might be a sign of some Duke P25 activity in your area.

Good to know. I wonder if all that would be required is a firmware update for the Uniden scanners. Could they decode the control channel if programmed to? Also, another reason to get the P25RX as soon as one is available. Thanks.

I suspect that the Uniden SDS series could be made to support it with firmware updates, but likely not any other Uniden brands. Even if they could, I'm not sure they would bother on anything older than the SDS series. One would hope, but that's all one can do.

If the P25RX can decode and follow it, then that would be fine for me. Just hoping I can buy one soon. Too many simulcast systems around me now, and for me the SDS scanners are too expensive and seem to have some issues. Most of the time I can get good decodes with my non-SDS Unidens, but it would be nice to have clear audio most of the time. I never buy the first thing out of the gate, so hoping Uniden has a follow-on SDS scanner that is better. Then I might consider putting $650 or so into one.

Used to love the old CP&L system. I started back when they were on Low Band (37 something). I moved with them to the 7 UHF channels. Then finally to 900MHz. About a year ago I gave up on them. You really can't hear anything anymore.

Only way to get P25 info is using the latest update on DSDPlus (paid version). I'm taking a guess on NC/SC might have a different SysID? SDS100 didn't detect any Control Channels I did it as a test it wouldn't even see it.

We're not getting any P25 in NC for a couple years minimum.
