The outside antenna might be the problem. I have a 996 here in Fremont as well and its works fine using the telescopic antenna that screws into the radio. Keep the antenna lowered too to about 6 to 8 " . Also, check the squelch...might work better all the way off. You shouldn't have a delay.

Fremont Fire

I just purchased a radio shack Pro 668, my first digital scanner. I would like to listen to Fremont Fire. I'm in south Milpitas. Will I be able to get reception from my location? Confirm that Fremont Fire is on the SW site? Which talk groups should I program?

Thank you!

re Fremont Fire

Yes, you should hear Fremont Fire from Milpitas on the Alco SW cell. They are dispatched by Alameda County on Dispatch 1 (2605). Unfortunately, you will also hear fire/ems calls for Union City, Newark and Alameda on that same talk group. For working fires, they will be on Command 5 (2665) or Command 6 (2666).

No reception

Oakland Tower thanks for your response. So far I have had no luck in getting reception. The signal bars bars bounce up and down, and the T flashes on and off. I have adjusted the DSP level and the threshold levels, but nothing seems to make a difference. I have tried both the stock rubber duck, a Watson W-801, and my rooftop DPD Omni X antennas.

What do you think the issue is?

EBRCS is a simulcast system. You may not be able to receive it, as a scanner isn't designed for it, regardless of what the scanner's specs may be.

I tried everything with EBRCS and two different radios, and have the same issue. What marginally worked, was a cheapie 1 inch long antenna (I can't read the brand, but it was advertised for NASCAR racing venues), and I still have only 50-60% reception reliability.

In Contra Costa County on the EBRCS system I am picking up on HP-2 scanner unidentified agencies.
One of them sound like a fire channel.
TGID 5002
UID 3284030

TGID 2606
UID 3013004

TGID 5554
UID 435032

Is there a way to identify these unknown channels and agencies?

It would help to include some specifics on the traffic you are hearing. Locations heard, which CCCO cell (West, Central, East) you are hearing this on...

5002 has been identified. See the database.
2606... same story... been identified, see the db.
5554... likely AMR, according to my notes.

(Hopefully) Quick question: I live in Piedmont and have a BCD396T. Either I have not programmed it correctly, or I can no longer use it to pick up local PD and FD. Do I need to either:

1) Program it correctly with new frequencies
2) Get a new scanner, like the BCD436HP
3) Find a new hobby

Thanks for the help!

No that's not the reason. Oakland hasn't been talking much if at all. They have not completely made the switch. Units have only been active for radio checks

I programmed about a year ago from the info on this website so that should be fine?
I should eventually pick up Oakland PD once they start to transmit?
It makes me wonder then what are they transmitting on currently?

Just re program it using the East Bay Regional Communications System (EBRCS) for Alameda County on the ALCO Northwest Simulcast site. All the info you will need is in the data base. Start with the freqs for the Northwest site. They are 700 MHz. Then scroll down and find the correct talk group's that you want.
Hope that helps.

Hi,

That's what I had done, using FreeSCAN and the EBRCS data. But the only communications I seem to hear are for Berkeley PD. I can see that all the Talkgroups that I'm interested are loaded in the scanner, but I never hear anything from Piedmont. Do I need to make any other adjustments?

Thanks!

Piedmont has not been too active lately. Might try switching to PFD when you hear their siren's and wait a few min and see if anything comes up.
I did hear PPD a few hours ago doing a car stop. They came in just fine during the short time I was listening.

I think Piedmont has 1 or 2 officers on duty and it's not a very large city. Activity is very minimal.
