Hoping someone can help me. In the frequency list for essex county ny I find multiple frequencies under fire and EMS are these the frequencies they tone out on or just talk with dispatch? I also see a low band that indicates fire/ ems alerting. Are they still toning out on low band?

Yes, they still use low band 46.46 for paging. They use a P25 Digital multicast system which means that each tower site transmits on a different frequency. In the description of each frequency it tells you what tower site these transmissions are coming from. All the radio traffic is the same from each tower site, hence multicast. You would only need to program in one of these frequencies for each channel (Sheriff, Fire, EMS and Highway) according to which tower provides the best coverage for your location. These are the dispatch frequencies.

Do you know anything on Franklin county NY? Are they running a similar system? I have the 159.090 and 159.135 programmed in but it only seems to pick up in some places in the northern part of the county. Malone it doesn’t pick up well but it seems to pick up good in brushton/ Bangor area

Franklin County uses PL steering to select their radio towers. In other words the subscriber radios (field personnel) and dispatchers have to pick a specific channel which transmits a PL tone unique to each of their towers.

Your radio receiver’s location relevant to their towers’ locations will mostly determine which towers you pick up. It sounds like from your location you’re picking up the Reynoldston tower but not the Malone tower. However, you should hear all pages for all departments since their paging frequency (159.090) is simulcast (transmitting from all towers each time).
