New York State senators and assembly members are reintroducing a state bill, and working with the NYPD to require transparency, and eliminate total encryption. The credential press should have immediate access to NYPD communications and a public should have access with a 30-minute delay for officer safety. This issue is not going away.
Why? Since when has the press been above the public? If they can listen to it immediately, then we should, too. Why should they get special treatment?

I agree with you. There should be 100% transparency to both the press and the public. The NYPD has been nearly impossible to work with. They totally rejected any and all transparency to the public. This will go through the legislative and legal process, until a satisfactory result is achieved for the public, and the press.

Yes, it has been in the database since Monday. 56 Years of NYPD radio listening hasn't come to an end yet. Many communications and Boros remain in the clear. Slow your role.
You should move to Florida; you would have a field day with all the encryption in the state.

Only Manhattan and Queens remain in the clear. All other boroughs are 100% encrypted
I go to Florida regularly and I am fully aware of the situation in Florida. Broward county remains in the clear, Dade is partially in the clear, as well as other counties in Florida.
The New York press and media consortium as well as the communications workers of America, New York City council, New York City neighborhood watch groups, New York senators and assembly members remain dedicated to NYPD transparency to the press, as well as the public. The fight has just begun...
What about Citywide, Highway, Detectives, Communications, Fleet services, Aviation, Tacs, Transit Units, School Safety, and Parking Enforcement? They all are still showing as clear in the DB.
Yes. Most remain in the clear. But Parts of the state, like Central Florida, are very encrypted. Yet I don't see the same fight about encryption happening there.
Well, let's hope for a reasonable outcome. But seeing as we are dealing with NYS and NYC. Yeah, good luck. They couldn't find a hair in a barber shop.
NYS and NYC are unlikely to go for any initiative that they deem to be "Trumpish", like government transparency.

I've been following this saga for the past few years and didn't think it would actually happen. I may be one of the oldest of you, first monitoring KEA745 (NYPD Brooklyn West) on VHF low band in 1956 with a tunable Hallicrafters. As usual, the very few who monitor the current frequencies to evade or circumvent the law have spoiled it for the rest of us.
