ALL Are p25e listed channels encrypted meaning they cant be monitored on sds100 scanner?
P25E = Full Time Encryption P25e = Some in the clear, some encrypted.

NYPD is going to be mainly P25E.

No consumer scanner or receiver will be able to receive those transmissions in the clear.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that CW 1 (as well as, maybe, CW2 & 3) will not be E, primarily because there are a ton of "outside agencies" which depend on having radio contact with the NYPD, such as State Parole, NYC Probation, NYC Sheriff, NYSP, various Federal agencies, and a few NGOs, etc.

The city is NOT going to give them encrypted radios, nor are they going to give them the key. And those citywide channels transmit "heavy" jobs on the initial calls and also when the jobs are in progress (if they're "heavy" enough).

Also, the reason why the NYPD is going full-speed on E goes back to the Summer of 2020 and the so-called "George Floyd riots." At that time, not only were the rioters monitoring the NYPD, they also had an abundance of CCRs and the like, transmitting false "13s" and "shots fired" in the middle of the window breaking, looting, and police car burning. That had to stop.

With that, I'll say that their main concern are those false radio runs being transmitted, and not what's heard over the radio. Also, their move to a Trunked system will give access to receiving with little chance (as discussed many times elsewhere) of anyone being able to program for transmitting (yeah, I know...everyone has some tech way of bypassing the key, etc., but that can be handled too), and may not go E, either. We'll see about that.

Re: Transit: the Port Authority Police use a trunked system on their PATH subway between NY and NJ, and, as far as I know, haven't experienced many, if any, problems. Granted, it's a smaller system, but it appears that being in a tunnel is not the main problem with Transit.

NYSP and various other agencies including the neighboring counties already have and have had access to encrypted Citywide 4 for a while now.

I did not know that.

But I still believe that, at least, CW 1 will be in the clear.

Well when you say you are news and you only have one opinion about a hobby I just ask what you are.
My opinion as a retired Firefighter is some of the things we see and say are not any outsiders business.
When you are inside a house on your hands and knees you do not have time or the convivence to change channels.
Things happen crews find things people family members listen both members and victims.

I have been 100% fair and balanced in my opinions on here regarding law enforcement encryption.

If you go back and look at my posts I have said numerous times that law enforcement encryption must be balanced between officer safety, and transparency for the press and the public.

Good compromise situations include dispatching in the clear with encrypted tac channels for sensitive communications and officers safety

Another compromise would be giving the press and the public access to public safety communications with a 30 minute delay for officer safety.

I have been 100% fair and balanced in my reporting on the subject.

The opposite is true for some on here who continue to advocate for 100% law enforcement encryption, effectively barring the press and the public from any radio communications from their police departments.

This is an extremely dangerous trend, and must be stopped immediately.

We will continue all efforts through city and state legislative agencies as well as legal departments of major media agencies to make sure The trend of 100% police radio encryption, with no transparency whatsoever for the public or the press is stopped.

Every radio communications tech on here is in favor of no transparency for the public or the press. it would appear they are advocating for the continuing trend of Motorola sales people pushing encryption on local police departments. Perhaps they are advocating for their own job security.

Personal opinions and news reporting should be separate. Notice I say "should be" because we all know that journalism is not what it used to be.

I never knew Walter Cronkite was a liberal until after he retired. Not many "journalists" have that kind of integrity nowadays. Still, I don't naturally assume that a person's personal feelings and interests automatically affect their job until I see it happening.
