I‘m in Miami and I tune in through Broadcastify and 5-0 Radio Pro App. My go-to’s are MDPD, MDFR, and City of Miami FD. Occasionally I’ll peek into the Hialeah FD channel.

I’m relatively new to this hobby and looking forward to learning more as well as eventually getting a scanner.

I am in Sumter close to Lake County and Marion. Just moved here. I heard that all public safety is encrypted here. Anyone know if this is true? Also a federal prison is down the street. I cannot find anything on the prison.
Is the radio reference DB kept current? Thanks

Yes ENC for Lake/Marion Counties. The Fed prison is on P25 trunking. The link is the system.

New Guy from the Punta Gorda/Pt Charlotte area. I listen to Charlotte County Sheriff, CC Fire/EMS and Punta Gorda PD. I need to add the Punta Gorda Airport and maybe Seminole Gulf Railway if possible. Been running a BCD996B2 with a external Sirio Discone for about 3 weeks. Quite the learning curve from years ago.

Dang, I started this thread almost 26 years ago and I'm a little surprised that it is still here.

I am living in the Hendersonville NC area now and I have my General Ham ticket which I was studying for back when this thread was new.

I am getting active on the local repeaters in Hendersonville as well as on DMR and Dstar. I'm still trying to figure out what Emergency Services I can monitor up here. I am really looking forward to getting involved with POTA and SOTA.

Hello my brother use to monitor seminole county and all the law enforcement agencies in seminole. However he has joined the US army and I've got more time on my hands and want to start listening like we use to when I was younger. Does anyone have advice on how I can do this and what would be the best portable handheld scanner that I would need? We use to have the uniden BCD325P2. However it is broke and I can't figure out how to fix it.

Hey Chris. I don't know if you've check out your county yet. I'm guessing that the LEAs are (E). If you want to listen with anything that is simulcast, you will need the SDS100 with DMR and NXDN upgrades. If not, the BCD436HP with the same upgrades should work for you.

I grew up there young, but have been down here for a long time. My Parents are from the Maderia Bch area.
