I use to live in Northern Arizona (Ash Fork) near the Grand Canyon. Arizona is a "free roam" state so it was common to see a herd of 20-30 cows wandering around the streets. And you didn't mess with them, even though the babies were cute as a button. It was up to the residents to have good fences, to keep the cows off of their property. If you complained to the rancher that the cows knocked down your fence, they would just tell you to put up a better fence. Every so often one of the babies would squeeze through the fence and mom couldn't get to them. Then there was a lot of noise and confusion, until we went out to the field and helped the little guy find his mom. Very often, the mom would thank you.
