Look like original one has been closed. Can some of you in Rural areas outside of Odessa/Midland start searching for new IDs. I was searching Odessa 700 site and have caught Ector and Midland Troopers using 50006 in the clear. Tend to not hear Midland Trooopers on the conventional P25 anymore, and never could hear Odessa before now. They may have cut over to GATRRS finally. Was curious if other talkgroups may be located for area DPS on GATRRS for Region 4 Such as Pecos, Ozona, and wherever other areas were for Region 4 wherein those areas called in for dispatch, such as along i10 corridor used Ozona and Pecos.

Way back in the day Midland handled all the comms in the area as far out as maybe Gail to the east, Seminole to the North and crane towards the south. Pecos was ward county out west of there. With the Sunset Commission closing offices, it is possible Ozona was closed. I think pecos is still open, as some recordings off new talkgroup, Odessa units were calling to pecos. Most all runs out of El Paso from this area now, as there is only one dispatcher left for Midland, and I guess they let him have a day of once in a while.

For all I know, those area are still working off convention channels and repeaters linked into El Paso.

When I was in Big Spring the other day, I did not hear any activity whatsoever on GATRRS. An insider from Big Spring told me that digital radios are sitting in a closet. Reportedly, Howard County will be using their own system. The radio traffic in Big Spring is incredibly boring. After reading the information about Travis county and GATRRS, I don't know if the whole system is being re-engineered or what.

The Big Spring tower collapsed during the ice storm so that may something to do with not hearing anything there.

I can understand why. There is a place on the top of South Mountain where there are many radio towers. I bet some of the antennas/dishes met the same fate.

Midland DPS is using their base 155.4675 NAC 118.
I assume this is the Big Spring Repeater 159.2175 NAC 137 and 154.5725 NAC 137.

For giggles, been monitoring the Midland VHF site. Anyone have any clues what some of these are? Radio ID listed to help. If conforms to DPS Inter-operability plan for radio ID, i think the 500XX are dps channels surfed thru, as were joins only. I think the 50409 is a TX Dot, not sure of the 42656 but was busy like crazy last night. Radio IDs suggest State, Tribal, or Federal group. Others appear to be a channel surf thru them since one hit, but did have a radio id associated with them as "Join" and Login and logout.

Anyone in the know? To help ID them?

Do have the NAC now too using SDR. Is NAC 130

Nope. You hear Dispatcher on the 155.4675. If you put in new TG, will hear Ector and Midland Units. Once in a while, may hear a Midland Trooper on conventional. I hear more 2 sided traffic on the new TG 50006. My guess would be the Conventional Stays up, so someone not on GATRRS can call DPS dispatcher over the conventional. I know once in a blue moon, Midland SO would call DPS on the conventional. I think that Blue Moon has since set though.

Notrees fell also, same weather event. Insurance pending. Not sure yet what becomes of Big Spring GATRRS. That was a leased tower site.

Hopefully no coyotes were injured.

I recently talked to an associate, who happens to be a ranking official in a county near Midland-Odessa. Although it has been rumored that this county won't be joining GATRRS, I have my doubts. Anything can happen in west Texas. I grew up in this area.

The person in question told me the radio shown in the attachment would operate on analog & digital, but the fully-digital radios are still not being used.

When I was in the Midland-Odessa area, I did not hear any radio traffic on GATRRS whatsoever.

At the request of the official in question, I blacked out the screen.

Yea. Don’t hear a lot because mostly used by txdot or the traffic is encrypted. Once in a while a birdie pops in to say hi on the tower

When I left Howard County, I headed south to Sterling City. On this trip, I set the recorder in my 436HP for subsequent review.

When I was near Sterling City, I heard the following talk groups:
3625, identified as Val Verde SO Dispatch. I don't know how this is possible, but I have it recorded. I also heard 30273 & 31187. I could not identify the last two.
