Hi folks:

I wasn't sure of the bandplan for the 200 MHz range, so I decided to do some more driving and see that the Parkway was talking recently on the system. Looks like the input to the repeater is 2 MHz higher putting them in the 219 MHz range. For those folks like me who don't feel like listening to the pulse and alarm/data sounds that the repeaters make, I would guess you could program the inputs to allievate that problem, but you'd have to be close by to hear any action then. Just some food for thought in the event you still wanted to monitor them without any fancy toys or computer programs that people like me don't have (yet)... :)

For the Newark area, I would try the Bayonne repeater inputs, which would be 219.5875; 6250; 6875; 8375 for the Turnpike. For the GSP, I would try both Bloomfield and Union inputs. Bloomfield would be 219.5625; 6500; 7875; 8625. Union would be 219.6000; 7000; 8000; 9000. Just be aware, as I previously stated, that you have to be close to the transmitting signal or have a nice antenna(s) to be able to receive the mobiles transmit. I heard them transmitting with a mobile mag mount up to 1 1/2 miles away on my BC296D.

where can I find information on this 200 Mhz system?

All the information is in this thread. However there's no scanner on the market to follow the system. I follow the system with custom hardware and software I developed.

Ok, for those of you like myself that is hell bent on monitoring the Turnpike and Parkway 220 system I went ahead this afternoon and programmed the input channels and low and behold if you live close enough to those roads you can pick up the simplex transmissions, all and all it's better then nothing. Where I work I am less then a mile and where I live I am less then a 1/2 from the turnpike, I remember always monitoring those amber transmissions back in the day especially during snowfall they can be very funny. Thank God for Joe's help last winter we all had at least an idea how the roads where during those major winter storms. Be well everyone !!

Not to split hairs here but the proper name is Passport, not LTR Passport. Same goes for Multi-Net, and Multi-Net II. There's no preceeding LTR. Just don't want anyone to think that scanners that track LTR would be able to track Passport or Multi-Net systems.

In addition, the 217/219 MHz system that the NJ Turnpike Authority uses has a slightly different protocol as normal Passport and the data is inverted.

Hi Fineshot,

Thanks! Yea I know, saw it there too. It's also in the DB system descriptions. Maybe it should be changed in RR to avoid any confusion. Basically the only similarity to LTR is that they all operate at 300 bps.

In addition to finding the repeater/site info in this thread, I went ahead and (finally) submitted the data to the database. It's listed in Bergen and Cape May counties so far, and may be included with the other counties in which it runs at a future time, if not already. Hopefully with all of us working together, we'll be able to solve most, if not all the mysteries of this system, and be able to be "in-the-know" with GSP and TP operations once again. :)

We should also change the site numbers to the correct ones once they are all known. The correct numbers are in the 70 and 80 range.

When I originally submitted the data, I wasn't sure if it was going to be listed as County specific like the Utility companies, or Statewide, so I listed each County in which the two highways run. Hopefully, a moderator or administrator can make the necessary corrections after a decision is made to how it's going to be listed.

You should probably remind the moderator it should be statewide because they probably won't know the system details and counties of the site locations.

Update: never mind, looks like it's in all the counties needed. I originally thought that it was only in Bergen and Cape May but the mod since added the system to all counties.

NJTA feed news

In anticipation of the snow this weekend, I will be feeding the NJTA Passport trunked radio system (NJ Turnpike) over the weekend if it snows. I will give the feed details at that time.

I also recently completed my Passport program conversion from a DOS based one to a Windows console program and I also designed and built 2 printed circuit boards so I can get rid of the breadboards. I hope to post pictures and screenshots of my work soon.

Here's a screen print of my Passport console program running on the NJTA system as of a few minutes ago.

Edit: Here are some descriptions of the fields:

SRCH - Search mode is activated
HC: - Home channel is 270 (217.6875) that is the "control channel"
SITE: - 092 is used by the system for simulcast transmissions
CHAN: - Current voice channel (270 or 260 were used)
TGID: - talkgroup ID
TYPE: - Type of call (group call, individual call, idle, etc.)
Last column is the alpha tag of the talkgroup
