What a great idea...

BTW: How much do you charge for your scanner-therapy? Ha.

Normally, I offer my services for free here (call me a philanthropist, I suppose). However, I may be willing to make an exception in your case. So, will you be paying by credit card or through PayPal? ;)

Finally, Uniden admits what I already knew, no one-on-one support. This is why I own a GRE radio. I have numerous emails from one of the representatives who assisted me in the operation of my radio. Although I will likely buy a HP, I won't be asking for Uniden's help because I know it does not exist. Sending someone to the public forum is total B.S.

What?? Ok lets move on. Too many beers

would someone please be so kind, to explain the term "GEO TAG" ?

In terms of HomePatrol-1 (and other location-controlled scanners) and the database, it means adding latitude, longitude, and range information to an element of the database so that the scanner can automatically turn the element on and off based on your location.

Question - order of favorite lists

I think the answer is no, but is there any way to control the order of appearance of favorite lists in Sentinel and the HP1? With so many lists available, I'd like to group the most frequently used on the first screens under Manage Favorites. They currently are sequenced by the order in which they were created.

If not, this would be a nice future feature.

330T Data Cable with GPS?

Just by chance, I pulled out the Uniden Data Cable for my 330T and discovered it fits in the GPS plug on my HP. Do you think it would work with a GPS assuming I have the correct null modem/gender changer adapters on the other end?

No. Draw a 30mi radius circle around your house. If any of the sites in the RRDB have range circles that touch your circle at any point, you'll get them too. So if you are 75 miles away from a transmitter with a 45mi range, you will hear them.

Sorry to use an old thread but I am trying to do exactly this within a favorites list, I have a transmitter site which is geo tagged and is 50 miles away, I have tried giving the transmitter various ranges with its geo tag from 30 to 99 miles, with my HP1 range set to range 30 miles it will never load it from the list, which begs the question how do you get anything in a favorites list which is more than 30 miles away to scan when using location control?

The overlapping circles theory does not seem to work.

I am also wondering why the HP-1 range setting is limited to 30 miles, I want to listen to stuff up to 100 miles away when on a big antenna but I still I want to use location control.

Can anyone help?

Something else is going on with your programming. You might confirm that the settings you are making are actually making it into the HP-1.

The description provided by rdale is dead on.

Thanks UPMan, I wondered whether the overlapping circles only applied to the main database and not the favorites list, I will double check the coordinates on Google Earth and try again.

Is there a maximum range that can be applied to a geo tag?

No, but GEOTAGS should be limited to their jurisdiction in most cases, So a tag for town police would would cover the towns borders not the whole county. Same with county wide tags. You could, if so inclined go as far down as districts so you only tag the district for the talkgroup/channel. Statewide channels would get a geotag that covers the entire state. And so on.

I found the problem, the range for the geo tag needs a decimal, ie I had a range of 99 miles set and it refused to load despite the range circles overlapping, however changing the range to 99.0 works perfectly, it seems that 1 decimal place is required or it just doesn't work.

I just hope in a future update we could have a wider range setting on the HP1?

If you want it larger than 99, just turn it off :)

Seriously - what is the reason for more than 99, but not off??

Why not just create a favorite?

If I turn it off then I will be scanning airports 500 miles away which I won't hear whereas 50-100 miles I can hear.

It is a favorite file of airports, airfields and air control comms.

Unless you are using it mobile with GPS - couldn't you just create multiple favs.?

I see your point regarding geo tags > 99 for air, but then I guess I'd do it the old fashioned way with favorites.
Is the database that good any way for air? I found it lacking a lot of smaller airports, but I'm not a big air monitor anyway.

As I am in the UK the database is useless here, but of course I knew that would be the case, the database worked very well whilst in Florida and with a GPS connected was great as I drove around Osceola, Orange, Polk, Seminole, Brevard and Volusia Counties etc

So for me its favorites only, I am using the HP1 base and mobile with a GPS, I am thinking about maybe having 2 favorites with different ranges on the geo tags, one for mobile and one for base, on my main antenna I can easily hear airports 100 miles away but in the car the 20-30 miles would be more realistic.

Its a shame the HP1 seems so "locked down", I know its not an enthusiasts receiver but I wish I could get at more things to change, more range, dwell times, add a country to the database, add UK counties to it etc

Perhaps the HP2 will have all this, in a case the size of an iphone with the option to use the earphone cable as an antenna for discreet monitoring, mototrbo decoding, how about MPT1327 for us over the pond?

Dream over, back to work now....
