I've added default location info for Miami-Dade. They'll autoselect after tomorrow's refresh. The area could still use some more granular tagging...right now the entire area will be selected based on the default locations.

I'm sorry but I put my question in the wrong forum. I live in Huntington WV and got my HP the other day and love it. The problems I Having is WVIRP, Huntington and Charleston Aircraft and CSX and Norfolk railroad wont come up on the database. And i check on the sentinel and almost every thing in WV is set to 0 on the lat,Long and range . But is still a great scanner.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it would be nice to have the Alpha Tag in the DB displayed as well on the HP1? Or at least an option to either display the alpha tag, description or Both? There are a hole bunch of systems, TRS specifically that display different descriptions in the Alpha tag versus the Description.

You can turn off Location Control to hear things in the DB that do not have geotags : Re:How To - Location Control - HomePatrol Discussion Forums

For railroads and I think air you have to make that in favorites list. I made the railroad in favorites by selecting railroads in the database, Its under statewide in every county. they may not be tagged right for every area but most of the freqs are there. And as said turn off location control in favorites.

It worked in Pa and I saw alot of RR freqs for WV in the WV datatbase. Even if its tagged wrong if you know the freq select it in the software and upload it to the scanner.

Thanks for the reply. Also I find another trick if something missing out of the database you want just make it your favorite list and on your homepatrol and click on the list and hit add current channel and hit use this list and everything in the database and your favorite is on there

I think the problem that many of us misss is the lack of this in county or geotagged databases. Many of these are in a statewide sysem in the state so needed to be added to favorites till the database gets accurate. If you cant find by entering zip make it a favorite and add it. This scanner is so new its between novice and advance users so if you don't understatnd Radio Reference database it can be confusing. Other then that its a great scanner. Upman doing a great job keeping the scanner and database updated.

I ended up editing the description on the HP-1 database file for my favorites, so now it shows what I want on the display... I imagine as the 3rd party software starts showing up, this will be even easier.

Yes it seems geo-tagging is going to be a bit of a handicap for listeners till the database is sorted out.

For instance, I note here in Los Angeles County which encompasses over 4,000 square miles has bulk of Sheriff frequencies geo-tagged to a single location, not per individual stations and usage for instance. Same thing goes for other various county and city agencies that cover large distances across the metropolitan areas.
Makes no sense to have something selected almost 100 miles away that either cannot be heard, nor is of any interest to the area you are located in.

I've attempted to update my database a dozen times but still get an outdated version (over 30 days old). The sys admin for my area says check here as he has updated the database regularly. HP keeps saying I have the latest. The sys admin guy says he's scanning my area fine with up to date data as of this morning.

Hello...

Is there any video or step by step instructions via pictures and how to update the data base via the computer software ?

Thank you.

Others on here claim to have database versions as new as a few days old but I can't seem to get anything newer than 12/09/2010. When I try to update, it says I have the newest.

All you do is start Sentinel and click on Update and select Update Master HPDB

Note: if you have favorites you need to manually update those after the update, they do not automatically update.

There was no DB update today, the last was 10/10/10 2 days ago.

I've done exactly as you said almost a dozen times tonight. I received this today from scannermaster. I updated the firmware first. Then I did a database update by clicking Update, update master HPDB. I then checked my versions which were 1.02 for firmware, & 12/09/2010 for the database. Mike Oxlong, our system database admin has his working fully up to date & receiving my area & I can't get it to recognize my area at all. Everytime I try to update since the initial, I get "database is up to date" but still 12/09/2010 when others have it only a few days old

Does HP use CTCSS and DPL for channels or does it receive carrier squelch.
