I still believe the HP2 has been improved and advanced as far as it can go. I don't have the electronic knowledge that many here possess but I don't think the circuitry and software will accept anything more advanced that what it is now. If Uniden ever markets an HP3, it may look the same outwardly but the innards would be entirely different.

The HP2 is an excellent scanner and does exactly what it was designed to do and does it well. Uniden knows that, but the technology has advanced and Uniden has engineered other scanners in an effort to keep up with it.

I love my Home Patrol II. I think it is still the best and easiest to use scanner. The touch screen interface is a lot less painful to navigate than the pushing and turning of the volume/squelch knob on units like my BCD325P2 and SDS100.

My HPII does struggle some with the local P25 state PD system, and the statewide ERN doesn't really come in well either. I suspect that it is partially due to location. The SDS100 and 325P2 have better antennas and a better location (physically within my domicile).

The HPII has a Diamond SRh789 which does help a lot, especially over the stock antenna it had when I first bought it back in 2015.

One thing I have noticed is that systems such as Citizen's Band come in better on the HPII than the SDS100 (it's not programmed in the BCD325P2).

I agree with others, the HomePatrol II is a solid unit, and not to jinx it but I have not had any issues with mine. I do run it a lot and I worry about it eventually burning out, but then you could say the same thing about any of our scanners (or any other electronics for that matter).

HP2 is still my favorite scanner. Unless there's another portable trunked talkgroup logger / lcn tracker radio that I don't know about with touchscreen.....

I like my HP1 & 2. My daughter is a pilot and she listen to air traffic with the 1. I use the HP2 as a backup. It's been a great scanner. Like I said earlier, it does everything it's supposed to do. The program and circuitry won't let it do the the things more advanced scanners can do. When that newer technology came along, Uniden met the challenge with their own newer technology in new scanners. There's nothing to improve in the internal program of the HP2, thus, no firmware upgrades.

I had an HP-1 back when. Sold it when our locals went to P25. Been without for years. Recently got an sds100 from ZIP. Too complicated and it was hard for my fingers to deal with the small buttons. Returned it just under the 14 day limit. Ate a $100 restock fee. Ouch. Ordered an HP-2 today from Amazon. 30 day return with no restock fee. I'm sure I'll love it. Only worried an HP-3 will be released in 31 days. DOH!

For what I see it is ALL about the SDS radio's now, yes the 436/536 will every now and than get an update but not the HP2 I have gone on many sites and they are all the same SDS that and SDS that, as soon as I seen that these new radio's were coming out I knew the others would be left in the dark, but that is part of this hobby it is an every day changing environment and it is up to us to adjust to it, just saying have a great day everyone.

Uniden just released a firmware update for both the 436 & 536 on 04/20/2019 a little over a month ago. I don't feel left in the dark, it was a good update too!

I personally use a UBC126AT, this works for me. If I had a need for a SDS model radio I would get one.
