Buncombe VIPER out?

Hi all, I completed my Pro 197 rebanding process for Buncombe a few months ago, everything went well, all the proper i.d.'s were there, no problem. I haven't turned on N.C.S.P. for a month or so, now there is deafening silence. I did hear a few references from Buncombe S.O. and A.P.D. that V.I.P.E.R was down. Please tell me it is a simple maintenance issue....

Your references are 100% incorrect. The only site in Buncombe County down is the High Windy site due to a tower failure in 2012 that as been documented in the Viper 3600 thread. All other sites are up and passing traffic. I have had no issues with the sites with my scanner(s).

Thank You, I was afraid of that so I checked my firmware updates in my 197, and saw that I was actually missing a few updates that I was so sure I had. Apparently I only have listed the 1.0, 1.3, and the 2.0. Geez. Time for a few good downloads

simple fix to complicated VIPER

I'm not ashamed to admit when I do really goofy things, well, up until the last few months I monitored VIPER using P25 for my 197. Two days ago I discovered silence. Spent two days playing with T Tables and pulling out hair. I finally did a Tune search for trunking channels. I realized I was looking at an M36 radio system, duhhhh. I switched my radio system in the programming for my 197 and have no trouble. I hope someone reads this and saves themselves two days of frustration. Happy Listening

After not hearing anything on the Wilmington VIPER site for a few days I did some exploring. I believe I've found a new control channel: 853.5875. I'm now hearing some Brunswick County comms, but nothing else. I think there should be more frequencies to be monitored but I'm not sure where to go at this point.
Any help?
Thank you.
John

Please disregard. It turned out to be the talk groups I had selected. The activity log on my Home Patrol confirmed it. Not gonna hear much early on a Saturday morning. Still, I guess the one control channel is enough?

quick question i had a site reband near me today and the frequency in the scanner is correct but my unitrunker is showing its 864 not 853 any clue how i can fix this?

If you actually changed the frequencies in the scanner, did you change the banding table if the site was rebanded? The way trunking works you need to have that table defined properly for the system.

Make sure your radio can be rebanded for starters. You need to update the firmware in the radio if it can't do it now but is upgradeable. That will require a data cable and the proper firmware for your specific radio.

Are these also the values I use on a Radio Shack scanner, the PRO-197? My other question is I use Butel program ARC-500 to program the PRO-197. Their rebanding table have five fields to fill in. They are: Lo Chan, Hi Chan, Offset, Base, and Step. What do I put in the fifth field, base? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Bill,
You should be able to just fill in the first 2 tables and leave the other tables blank.

For those of you using Win500:
After entering the rebanded freqs for your tower locations, click on "TrunkingTables".
Then on the drop-down menu that appears, select "800 'rebanded'", then click "OK".

I did that before leaving home for Lincolnton and Hickory this week and was receiving VIPER in the SHP Troop E and F areas flawlessly.

I'll be watching this thread for rebanding reports for eastern areas, as I have my '106 VScanners organized by SHP troop areas. (A&B in one, B&C in another, etc.)

I have updated the database. Just use the custom table in post 1 of this thread
and you should be back in business in no time.

Ok, I'm lost......... I have a HP-1, and the new x36HP scanners, is their something other than apply the weekly RR updates to my radio I need to do? I do realiize I will need to update my Favorites also, just not sure about anything else? What about my 996XT ( I use FreeScan to program it)?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

As long as the sites in question have rebanded in the database then all you have to do is wait until the update is pushed out.

If you don't want to wait then you can manually go into the scanner and add the custom tables. The tables are listed in the beginning of this thread. Set it from Motorola 800/900 to Custom and fill in the 2 rows and you're ready to go.
