Wondering, out loud, if anyone submitted a request to force all amateurs to get their Morse Code test done. After all, "no-code" brought about the "End of the hobby!!!!!!!".
Why not? Just provide a copy of the rules with each radio, like 11m.GMRS licensing could be eliminated, it's free-use in Canada with no problems.

I've moved on to FT4 ending the hobby.
I agree with you so passing a test to be an Extra class where all you have to do is memorize the answers to the questions don't prove a thing and sure don't make you smarter.......Yeah, I disagree.
While it would be nice for -SOME- to have their ham license, or GMRS, or GROL, or whatever, it's not necessary or required.
Having all 3 myself, I don't see much value in it for someone at the FCC to be able to do their job.
The police officer/speeding ticket strawman doesn't hold up, since it would ultimately come down to a judge to interpret the law. Someone simply having a drivers license, or amateur radio license for that matter, doesn't impress me. Having a ham radio license is the floor, not the ceiling. Passing grade on a 35 question multiple choice test doesn't make one an expert.
Doubt we will ever see the amateur license testing switched to an essay format. That would certainly starve the hobby of new entrants.I agree with you so passing a test to be an Extra class where all you have to do is memorize the answers to the questions don't prove a thing and sure don't make you smarter.......
My father always tried to ingrain in me "quality over quantity". While that's not always popular, my answer for ham radio too.Doubt we will ever see the amateur license testing switched to an essay format. That would certainly starve the hobby of new entrants.![]()

No, I'm sure the VE's wouldn't regarding the essay thing. That being said, how many of the current crop that get licensed, get a CCR, only the rubber duck antenna, start complaining they can't talk to anyone and just stop, are gonna help fight for spectrum?A very important concept that I wish I had an appreciation for a little earlier in life. With the threat of losing spectrum, ham radio may not have that luxury. Plus the VE's would not want the burden of grading essays.![]()
As a Tech you would know.I agree with you so passing a test to be an Extra class where all you have to do is memorize the answers to the questions don't prove a thing and sure don't make you smarter.......

It's never been about the class of the license, rather the class of the operator. I've been a general since 1996 and I am aware of what I know, don't know, and what I've done in the hobby. Those that know me personally also know. We're proud of the licenses we have currently from tech-extra. I guess one day I might sit for the extra but, truthfully that's only to help the club for testing.LOL
In all fairness, I would rather work a Tech that is enjoying the hobby than a 1x2 or 2x1 no code extra that thinks they know everything.
My 29 year old parrot CC does not like the no coders. As can be seen in his pic, he has a mean foot on the paddles. He only does 5 wpm, but he has DXCC on ten cw.
CC has been mad lately at the refrigerator. While ordering the groceries my refrigerator has 200 confirmed on 20 digital with FT8.
