I just saw where they updated a lot of talkgroups for Iredell County.

I was just curious as to why they have gone crazy and out off their minds wanting to add BS encryption to everything.

Before they had 800 Mhz. and were still on Uhf and Vhf they didn't care about encryption.

Seems like they are trying to hide something going encryption.

This encryption mess has gotten out of hand.

Time approach they elected officials and put a stop to it

Poor scanner listener doesn't stand a chance anymore.

Don't get me wrong. I agree encryption should be used for sensitive stuff like hostage, bomb, swat and such.

But give me a break dispatch and operations channels being encrypted no reason for it.

Especially the Fire Talkgroups.

I listen to Iredell County daily. Most channels are in the clear. The only agency that has full encryption is Troutman Police. All other law agencies' primary dispatch channels are in the clear. Seems there are only a couple of Fire and EMS channels that are encrypted, while most everything else is in the clear. Still plenty to listen to in Iredell County.

It looks like the description fields all got overwritten with the alpha tags.

Apart from Troutman Police, no dispatch is encrypted. Most of the encrypted talkgroups are special ops, admin, and conference talkgroups. Nothing too crazy in my opinion. Iredell reworked their TGs and added a bunch of new ones with the switch to the simulcast (see: Iredell County Updates). The descriptions probably should be fleshed out so they are easier to understand. I would not expect someone from out of town to immediately know all the acronyms.

It was 120 talkgroups, and that's how they were submitted. If you need any channels clarified, feel free to ask clarification here or submit updates, otherwise I think at least 90% of them are descriptive enough to service as a description.
