Absolutely, and of course the lack of P25 capability with these new models, which is going to be very heavily restricted going forward. Everything will require a special license from the FCC/FAA/USDA/USPS to obtain P25 capability, and all current P25 systems and repeaters will send out special packets that will disable all currently unlicensed P25 devices at a future date, forcing compliance. In addition, the "BIG E" will be implemented on all radio systems and channels around the same time, along with encrypted TDMA P25 control channels so that you won't even be able to watch the activity anymore, much less listen to anything. Oh yeah and the government is going to force all analog channels to go digital, which has been secretly in the planning stages for many years, it was hidden within the narrowband mandate back in 2012 but is going to shock a lot of people when it happens.
Ah ha! That explains the delay in any FW updates from Uniden. They were sorting all this out, it all makes sense now.

Correct. Not many people realize that Joe not only runs Uniden and Airspy.us, but he also works for the USDA and had a big role in these changes. Stay tuned!

No i was asking if serious, the post was great but then again I have so many scanners so do people who have more than me then what happens to us?what happens to our scanners? is it going the way of the dodo bird? our county refuses to go the Big E because they buy more and more police and fire boats and try to sell the older ones and we dont have the funds to upgrade to Phase 2 digital however im waiting to see if they make phase 3 or 4 P25 scanners.

So I want to get clarification if possible, you are saying the lack of new scanners by Whistler and uniden is because the government turned off the new scanners, or what Uniden and Whistler can make because they want everything as you said it with the big E?

what about the current scanners like Whistlers tx1- tx2? 1040 and 1065 they will disable them? same with all uniden models?

do you have a link to this narrowband mandate? or shall I google it myself?

Probably you mandatory have to disable the trunking function for non-digital signals by removing the flux capacitator. After that’s done you only can receive narrowband FM signals.

OK, I feel like I have to step in. I can't stand to watch this…..

It was all humor. You need to remember that there are some very smart people here that have a huge amount of knowledge and skill. Sometimes they like to play with the noobs. Not necessarily you, but you got caught in this. There's a few individuals on this site that are really -deep- into conspiracy theories and will often ask really idiotic questions about the "Government" outlawing P25, scanners, encryption, dihydrogen mononxide, tin foil hats, and the like.

No. I can promise you, 100% the "Government" is not going to turn off scanners. There is no way for them to "turn a scanner off". You own a scanner, you can use it. Don't listen to the conspiracy theorists. They are idiots.

As for encryption, yeah, it's happening. Your scanner isn't going to decode it. If a government (state, local, federal), an agency, a private company, etc. decide to run serious encryption, you won't be able to hear them. It's -just- encryption.

No one and no government can remotely disable your scanner.

Before you do that, understand that it is a deep technical subject and it's not going to be easy to understand. It may be easy to get confused and fall into the conspiracy trap, but stop yourself before that happens.
Narrowbanding was something that happened 01 Jan, 2013 that ONLY involved changing the analog emissions on some parts of the VHF and UHF bands. It did NOT stop anyones scanner from working. It was NOT a government plot. It was just a technical change to allow more radio channels to fit in the existing space.

Take a step back, take a deep breath. Some of the above posts are humor.

I see they already got to you. It's just a matter of time before they brainwash everyone here and make them think all this isn't true.

Kevin,
I think that would be a violation of the Cincinnati Directive.

My apologies. I thought my post was so thick with sarcasm that it was obvious. I realize that isn't the case, however. No offense intended, Akuriko; just good fun.

I really did think that my posts were so saturated with sarcasm and absurdness (the USDA? really?) that no one could possibly take them seriously. I must be new here.
