If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

KCH-21R Remote Handheld - Dip Switch

Just acquired a used KCH-21R handheld remote head to use in my vehicle to replace the KCH-20R.
There's no documentation with the -21R and the online manuals don't mention the single DIP Switch under rear flap next to the RJ-45.
Currently that switch is "ON" and it's past life the -21R was connected to a single deck (NX-5800).

I'm planning to connect it to a dual-deck setup (5700/5800). Should I leave the -21R's switch to "ON" or is this switch used for some other function?

The remote head configuration manual that I have doesn't address the -21R models at all, only the -19 and -20 versions.

Thanks.

Make sure you do a firmware update when you put it together, or add another deck.
This puts all the inner works in order and you wont get mis-match, and head error
after you dump in the new file with the 21 head turned on in Product Info.

I had already updated the firmware in the -21 head to match the dual decks, so when I swapped out the -20 for the -21 and loaded the two codeplugs for each deck the unit booted up first time... almost like I knew what I was doing. Thanks for your valuable assistance.
