A explanation of the Fire TG Layout.
I just heard from my media contact over at Ch4. He just got this email from the FD PIO and shared it with me.
Hello,
All missions within KCFD, such as EMS, Fire, HazMat and Rescue, have been integrated into one radio system.
KCFD Communications will now dispatch everything over “A-1 Primary.”
Companies will be informed as to what channel to respond on.
A-3 and A-4 will be used primarily for calls involving a minimal amount of companies or radio transmission.
A-5 thru A-10 will be our TAC channels for fire ground operations, technical rescues or scenarios involving large scale or multiple companies.
The “A” zone is a transmission from the sending radio, to the tower and back to the receiving radio.
The strength of the tower allows us to communicate from one end of the city to the next (actually, beyond that).
When there are reception issues with the tower, we can switch over to the “C” zone, which allows transmission to be from radio to radio, without the use of the tower. (Talk-around for us that know what that is, radio to radio, no repeater)
The drawback is that you are limited in your radius for reception, but it will work great on a fire ground or within the same vicinity.
The “B” zone will primarily be used for training.
This is a rather condensed explanation.
Thanks, Joe V.
