They call it scrambling but I believe it is a way of inverting the DCS code. Motorola publicizes it as more private only because it isn't used in many radios.

Not by my scanner right now I shall attempt to catch it on video and a screenshot from UniTrunker tomorrow.
Thanks cinsu! Just in case, you may want to turn on decode logging (checkbox on the receiver window). I'd like know what's causing this. If there's a problem, I usually ask for a decode log.

Section 95.183(a)(4) of the FCC Rules prohibits GMRS operators from transmitting coded messages and messages with hidden meanings.

I just found the manual to it (Motorola T6220) online. They call it an "Eavesdrop Reducer" in the manual. It definitely inverts voice. Here's the link to the manual and the reference is on page 38:

Essentially what Midland got in trouble for was their "scrambler" suppressed one of the sideband products making the received signal sound like Donald Duck. Midland admitted no wrong doing, but pulled all the product still in the pipe and requested retailers to return unsold product. They did pay a hefty fine though (well, probably less than 1% of their profits from selling the radios for all that time)... How Motorola is getting away with basically the same thing, I have no idea (more government contracts than Midland????) but you are correct, "Eavesdrop Reducer" is just a basic time based voice inversion scheme.

Now, if these Motorola radios also do MURS (VHF-hi band), digital and suppressed sidband FM is permitted.

Anyone familiar with LifeStar, specifically the east (Lawrence) repeater?

I have not heard any traffic on the analog freq in a couple weeks. Been scanning on KSICS for a wildcard but, so far nothing found. The database here shows a TG for Topeka, but nothing for Lawrence.

I do not have the best luck scanning anything KSICS outside of KHP Troop A. I can barely hear Troop B and KTA. Completely unreliable as far as Leavenworth County KSICS.

Current plan is to upgrade my antenna when Douglas County decides what they are planning on doing as far as KSICS or the rumor of joining the Johnson County 700 system.

I don't know the talkgroup off the top of my head but it is the one you are referring to. I hear traffic on it regularly from the Topeka tower. I don't know why it is labeled as being specific to Topeka but I believe they are using it for all of their areas.

Try TG 1661 for LifeStar. I believe they might have abandoned their UHF stuff. LifeFlight Eagle also has a new talkgroup on KSICS for when they do flights to Topeka and Wichita. Not sure which talkgroup they're using, though.

I've been getting a significant number of hits on Talkgroups 2459 and 2460 in the past week. Of course they always seem to come in when I'm on the phone at work, so I can never listen to the traffic and my scanner recording at home is disabled right now as I lost my big network drive, (audio files from the scanner can get BIG fast...)

I have heard what sounded like a city or county maintenance type traffic a couple of times though on 2460. Has anybody else latched on to these groups and been able to identify them?.....

Which tower are you receiving from?

About the only one I can pick up regularly here in my new cubicle (I had to move to an "interior cubie" a couple of months ago because my caseload doubled) is the Wichita Site (1-13) and occasionally Aulne (2-20) depending on the weather. I haven't checked, but I would guess the Wichita site. But, if someone from that group is at the Academy in Yoder or in Wichita for some reason, it would drag them to that site anyway. I can't hear Partridge (1-15) at all anymore from work, so I can't see if they are on that one also.

I did noticed a sale on a one Terabyte drive this week for $89, I may try to pick one up and get my scanner programs back up and recording....

Well, I finally did get to hear some of it. It is coming off of the Wichita site. TG 2460 seems to be a county Transportation agency. They were talking about taking somone back home "out on 157th St." Butler or Sedgwick County? My guess would be Butler. There is a SW 157th Terrace out on S Haverhill.... But BU County Transportation was on TG 2315 last I knew...

Thanks, I will give it a shot. I would assume on the Douglas County tower...

I did hear them dispatched on UHF, Saturday, but that was only the dispatcher and the initial dispatch. I did not hear anything else other then the very basic information. Alert tones followed by "LifeStar One, scene flight Osage County." That was it.

I can receive LifeFlight Eagle loud and clear, they are simulcast on the JoCo 700 system, which I have no issues receiving.

Well, I have gotten to listen to some of it now in the afternoons. TG2459 and 2460 are a school bus service. I haven't figured out which district/county yet though. At first I thought it might be Butler County, but now I'm not so sure. I'll keep listening. If any one else around SC KS hears it, listen for street and road names. We can plug them into Google Maps or a gazzetter and figure it out from that.

Also, today I am hearing a lot of "Testing 1234 4321" on several other new talkgroups, 672, 673, and 674. These appear to be down in the "medical" group with Eagle-Med and several county EMS groups. No identifiers given yet except on TG 673 where someone said, "Yeah, this will be OPS 3."

They were clearly having serious transmitter problems with their East repeater over the past 6 weeks or so. I wonder if it simply quit on them? I haven't had a chance to listen to it for the past few days, but it was at least partially operative about a week ago. It's true though that it hasn't been getting the traffic that it did early in the Summer. I live right down the hill from one of the LV Co. repeaters but haven't checked for new TGs lately. I'll see what I can discover.

I have the same problem at my desk, every time something comes up on the scanner that would help identify my phone seems to ring.
Today on 2460 on the Wichita tower I heard "We need to make sure ??ason Bentley is on bus one" and then ??ason Bently is not on bus one" then "Cottonwood 2" and then my phone rang.

I reset my hit counter sometime middle of last week and have had 31 hits on 2460 on the Butler County Simulcast towers. I usually only have that turned on when I am at home after 5:00pm and when I am in northern Wichita during the day (which I was Thursday and Friday of last week).

Havent seen a 2459 on my scanner yet.

Late last week and today it seemed like I heard a lot of testing on TG's that are documented in the DB but I have never heard anything on. TG465 had Burns duty officer and some other units testing today.
