That is good to hear then. I just figured there was so much "free money" available from Federal programs and someone decided now was a good time to require encryption.

Our local Municipality in Thomas County has put up an additional KSICS site and last I heard they were due to go online the end of this month. The plan is to add the local Fire Department, Public Works, EMS, and others to the KSICS system.

I do not foresee this causing any more agencies to adopt encryption and, potentially, we could see some agencies back away from using encryption if it is no longer a free feature of their radio.

I can see many locations going to BK, Harris, Kenwood, etc because of the price of new Motorola radios with AES is high and budgets are still pretty tight.

BK and Harris are becoming more and more common, at least on the KC Metro MARRS System. You can get the BK KNG2-M800/P800 for right around $4560 with AES and P25 authentication, and the radios work just as good as the Motorola APX equipment does for half the cost.

Does KDOT even allow non-Motorola subscriber radios onto the system? I remember reading a contract that one of the agencies down in the South Central part of the State signed. One of the stipulations/requirements from KDOT was the agency had to use Motorola only equipment. It's been every bit of 10-11 years since I saw that, and I thought it was rather odd.

We were told that all new radios going on the system after a certain date must be capable of AES, not necessarily using AES. All APX radios are capable of AES.

Good evening, everybody! I have recently relocated to Manhattan and finally had time to fire up and start reprogramming my Pro-197. I'm not that familiar with KSICS at the moment but hope to get there pretty soon. I am hearing sporadic traffic on TG 5179 (Pottawatomie Site, channel 853.600) but I cannot find it in the RR database. Tried searching but nothing came back. Maybe I'm searching in the wrong spot. Anyone else heard this TG before?

Doesn't seem to be a 853.600 frequency on KSICS.

Noticed today another site in Pottawatomie County is online in the northern part of the county. Has to be either Olsburg or Wheaton from where I was located and the signal strength I had on my handheld. I am betting it is Wheaton. WRKA223 is the call they are listed under.

Does anyone have an updated map of all the KSICS tower sites available? The one I have is at least 10 years out of date and I haven’t found any updated ones. Thanks!
