Anyone interested in listening in on the search for the lost snowshoer on Guenella pass tune your scanners to Clear Creek Sheriff's "blue" channel (155.610 & 158.970), and "yellow" channel (155.100), as well as Alpine Rescue (155.160)

I've heard radio #'s "1 paul 2" and "102" from the sheriff's office working during the search. Alpine rescue uses "600" radio numbers in addition to "Ops" and "Teams".

I was hoping to put Clear Creek on the world wide web for all to listen, but it seems I'm being blackmailed by the phone company, electric company ect. They said if I don't give them a portion of my paychecks everymonth that they'll turn of my services...... by the time everybody takes their share, I don't have enough left to get a high speed connection

Snowshoer Missing On Guanella Pass
Arapahoe County Man Not Seen Since Saturday

POSTED: 5:36 am MST February 21, 2005

GEORGETOWN, Colo. -- Rescuers planned to resume their search early Monday for a snowshoer missing for almost two days and believed to be in Clear Creek County.

The 49-year-old Araphoe County man left the Denver metro area early Saturday morning to snowshoe somewhere in the mountains, Clear Creek County Sheriff's Cpl. Rick Safe said in a news release. When he didn't return that night as planned, he was reported missing to the sheriff's office, Safe said.

The man's car was found at the summit of Guanella Pass Sunday afternoon. Alpine Search and Rescue began a search for him at 2 p.m, and he had not been found by late Sunday. They planned to resume searching Monday.

The man's name was not released.

Guanella Pass is between Georgetown and Grant about 45 miles west of Denver. National Weather Service meteorologist Bob Koopmeiners said there were scattered snow showers in the area over the weekend, with highs in the 40s and lows in the mid-teens.

Turn things around

Wonder if we can blackmail them back?

Anyhow, as of 09:55 Clear Creek dispatch notified officers in the field that they recieved the phone records for the missing persons cell phone. It showed that calls were attempted from his phone after 06:00 this morning, so that's good news.

Air Force requested

Update: The phone calls were going into the lost parties cell, not coming from, so that's a bummer.

A helicopter from summit county (lifeguard 1?) is now searching, communicating with those on the ground using NLEEC.

Clear Creek SO is trying to get some air assistance from the Air Force.

Yes L/G 2 is enroute from Frisco saying they have a "weather window" and will be able to assist until it closes in again.

I hate this

Jim,
You get replies to what I post online faster than what my page refreshes after I press the "Submit" button.

Trying to get phone #'s for 2 people who were at the top of the mountain after the lost snowshoer.

Lots of excitement in Clear Creek during the past week

News media

News media is getting called to air the names of the 2 names appearing on the "log" on top of the mountain. Clear Creek wants to talk to them and see if they saw the missing snowshoer at all.

Lifeguard 2 found snowshoe tracks near a cave on the mountain. Sounds like they are going to send a ground team to check it out. The helicopter is giving the ground crew GPS coordinates.

Sounds like Lifeguard 2 is running low on fuel and is heading back to Summit county

L/G 2 just checked back in with dispatch on this side of the divide and is indeed enroute SMC in Frisco for fuel.

Rescue with 2 snowmobiles to be enroute

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY - A snowshoer who had been missing since Saturday was found alive and in good condition Monday.

Crewmembers of a National Guard helicopter spotted 49-year-old Steven Brodsky while flying near Abyss Lake in the Mount Evans wilderness. He was waving a survival blanket as the Blackhawk helicopter went overhead.

After spotting Brodsky, the helicopter landed. A ground crew hiked to Brodsky. He was flown to the command post near Guanella Pass.

Brodsky walked off the helicopter on his own and said he was alright as he waved to media and relieved rescuers gathered there.

Lt. Rick Albers, with the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office, was smiling with relief. "Sometimes they turn out this way, sometimes they don't. This was a good day," he said.

A Flight for Life Helicopter then flew Brodsky to St. Anthony Central to be checked out.

Brodsky is believed to have gone hiking on Guanella Pass, which is six to seven hours by foot from where he was found. He said he got turned around during a snowstorm.

Brodsky left his metro area home early Saturday on a snowshoe outing. He was reported missing that afternoon when his fiancé called authorities after he did not return home at his scheduled time.

A Park County Deputy found Brodsky's car at the top of Guanella Pass on Sunday. Search and rescue teams were concentrating their efforts near the 11,666 foot tall pass, about eight miles south of Georgetown.

They said luckily Brodsky had the right equipment and outdoors experience to survive the cold and high altitude conditions for two days.
