I completed the addition of two portions of the Wiki covering Codes and Terminology used at the Mammoth and June Mountains Ski Area. This should aid those listening to this radio system by explaining the unique terms you will hear. If anyone hears some that I haven't provided an explanation for, please post the code or term here and I will see about getting it included in the wiki.

well.. not a lot of info to report. Need a better setup outside of the house. I believe the control channel for the top is 854.425, chalet 854.125 and rainbow 854.475. I was able to hear talk group 2001 talking about lifts. I was also able to hear Mammoth Mtn on 854.650, ski patrol and lifts. Going to give it a go again in a couple weeks.

What do you mean by the "top?" June Mtn. has two sites, Rainbow, which is at the top, top of Chair J6 on Rainbow Ridge. The other is the Chalet site and the antenna, as well as I can tell from Google Earth, is in the center top of the Chalet building. By the top, do you mean the top of Mammoth Mtn., or some other location?

The two sites I mentioned is taken from license data. Your reference to the top, are you speaking of the top of Chair 7 (J7)? It is highest point for any facility at this ski area. However, most of the electronic gear on the mountain seems to be at the top of Chair 6 (J6).

Small update for the Mammoth system. The "Chair 12" 855.0375 is currently the control channel and 855.3625 is not. I was only able to confirm with a scanner, as I can not recieve that site from my place with a PC.

855.0375 is not currently marked in RR as a control channel. es93546 had asked that he make updates.

I hope to run a log on Chair 12 but doubt I will have the time, since I am only visiting and not easy to do mobile.

I'm logging some additional talkgroups. Since Sunday I've been logging the Events 2 & 3 talkgroups, but I wasn't at my desk to hear what type of event was being conducted. I've also logged additional lodging related talkgroups. Again I was not at my desk to determine if the traffic indicated the function of the channel. I wish I could wave a magic wand and gain the ability to record my logging.

I continue to log traffic on the following talkgroups, but I'm either away from my desk or I hear the traffic and it does not have any conversation that indicates the function of the talkgroup. Here are those talkgroups:

1001 - Administration? Upper management communications with receptionists?
1002 - Administration?
1005 - I haven't heard anything since last fall so it might have a summer function only. Golf holes mentioned. The Sierra Star Gold Couse, owned by the ski area, has an exclusive talkgroup of 1025. It would not make sense to allocate this talkgroup, separated by 20 other talkgroups, to golfing.
1007 - The old system had a rarely used talkgroup for what the mountain calls "Staff Accommodations" or in plain English, "Employee Housing." The 1006 talkgroup is building maintenance and it would be logical to group Staff Accommodations right below it.
1008 - Not logged very often.
1034 - The old system had alternate or second talkgroups for each ski school. I'm wondering if this new system allocates one second talkgroup for all three ski schools (Main, Canyon and Eagle Lodges). I log this talkgroup with regularity.
1038 - Fairly frequent logging in the past 2 weeks, several times per day, and only in the daytime.
1039 - Persons using first names only. Logged once in January.
1040 - Never logged. It may not be programmed into this system.

It is difficult to be right here at the computer, notice the scanner stopping on an unidentified talkgroup and have conversation indicate the function of the talkgroup. I've identified 80% of the talkgroups where 99% of the traffic occurs. If any Mammoth Lakes resident members can get a hold of a MMSA radio and see how each channel (talkgroup) is identified. I would appreciate that resident getting a hold of me, via direct message so I can get my hands on a MMSA radio.

I'm still looking for someone to figure out the channel numbers (LCN's) of the two June Mtn. Ski Area sites. I know someone tried, but had equipment issues. The end of the season at June is coming up so we don't have much time to figure it out. I appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

Thanks for all the info. I used FreeScan to upload the system into my BCD325P2 recently. Finally up here for a trip, and I'm not hearing anything on the scanner. Just noticed some of the recent updates, so will have to reprogram when I get home and try again. Funny though, sounds like I should have been able to hear some patrol traffic or something this am even with the previous info. I had the old system programmed and could hear things fine, but havent had a lot of luck since Mammoth put up the new system. Will try again...

You have to make sure you have the correct channel numbers, which are shown when you click onto each site. Make sure you have all three sites programmed into the radio, those being Lincoln Lift, Chair 12 and Mammoth Mountain Summit. Click on the site name and scroll down to the frequencies. Enter each frequency exactly as shown, with the correct order, LCN and color code. All frequencies are entered twice, just as shown in the database. Ignore the "Channel ID" as there isn't anyplace to enter it in the 325P2.

The talkgroup information is updated as of yesterday. I've been logging traffic all morning long, including two talkgroups that I haven't identified a use for yet. However, I wasn't at the desk when they were received so I didn't hear what I needed for ID purposes.

I've never used FreeScan so I don't have any specific discussion of what to look for in your programming. I use ProScan and am more than satisfied with it.
