    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Im currently in the process of trying to figure out the LCN order on a LTR system using a 996XT

I set it up where i made a LTR system and a site for every frequency

So far i have picked up a few talkgroups on the same frequency
They all begin with 1-02
So should i assume said frequency is either LCN 1 or 02?

Isn't the 1 the area code?

BTW, a DVB-T dongle and LTR Analyzer would've been simpler.

The way to understand LTR Standard is this way. Example below. 104 is a made up talkgroup as an example. So the said freq would be 02 with the 1 being the area code.

1= Area Code
02= Rptr or LCN for that Freq
104= Talkgroup

Is this the system you are mapping out?

Thanks for the replies folks :D

Ok cool - so its safe to say that the LCN for the freq is 02 so what i think i can do is make another LTR system with said frequency as LCN 02 and then add the others in as i pick em up...

The system im mapping is actually a system that is not in the DB (license is here- https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?fccCallsign=WPPZ590 )
What happend was i have been getting some activity on freqs that i had programmed for other agencies and i had them all on tone search but no tone was showing so upon some license searches i found that license with the corresponding frequencies
Something told me it may be a LTR system so i looked into ways of mapping LTR systems and now i have been picking up some talkgroups so i guess ive done something right at this point ;)

I do have a dongle - but only one and i do know that when it comes to mapping most trunk systems you generally need 2 however i am not sure if the same applies to LTR systems...

Your Welcome. When it comes to small LTR systems it may only have 2 to 4 active LCNs.

While the talkgroup, such as 0-02-128 may be in use on a frequency, it's not to say that frequency is LCN02. Could be, may not be.

That talkgroup's home channel is "02", but if it's in use by another talkgroup, it may be seen on another LCN/Frequency.

The older Radio Shack/GREs (like pro-92).... you could just monitor the frequency and as long as that system sent the information, with the "idle burst" (the click, or key up that you hear)..... you may get 0-02-255 burst or 0-02-253 on the CW-ID.

Some of the newer GRE will display R01 (or whatever the LCN is) while monitoring a frequency.

If the system is passport, I have no idea how to get the information.

I have used a PC LTR monitoring program in the past, but haven't had a lot of success.

Anyone have some info in regards to using a dongle and some type of software to track a LTR system? Ive read into it a bit but what i got from that was pretty much whats needed is a tapped scanner for some reason a dongle cant really be used for that - i may be misunderstanding however...

You can either use sdrtrunk to decode and listen to LTR channels, or use sdr# or sdr-radio in conjunction with unitrunker or ltr-analyzer. You don't need a disc tapped scanner.

Oh ok thanks - i suppose i will be trying Sdrsharp and unitrunker as i have those already
Im open minded to trying other software also

I have been getting decent results with the method that i have been using but i figure itll be a bit more "convenient" for me to just use the dongle for such a thing
