GTO 4. I cannt hear Meca Sys2 on the Metro Indianapolis/Marion County NW side. I cannot hear DPW or even IPL which uses Meca Sys 2 as their control channel.

Does MECA Sys 2 operate from different tower locations?

Sys 2 and Sys 1 were on different towers when I was living there.... They may have everything up on all sites now. I was able to fully recieve both systems from downtown, up to Arcadia, and all over Marion County clearly. Only issues I had was if I went right near any of the sights then I had to attenuate til past. Ohh Now that DOC has fully moved all the Indy ops to the SAFE-T, are they still using the IJF tg on MECA?

No look on the RR DB program Public Safety SYS 1 separate and program Government SYS 2 separate and IPL is only using the CC of SYS 2 852.1125 and they are using only there freqs from the old IPL analog system it is weird how they are doing IPL the CC of SYS 2 is basically operating two separate systems with Digital they can do a lot more stuff than in the old days with analog and we need to be open minded on how these new systems operate from the old days also keep in mind this is a True P25 9600 Digital so make sure you program it that way it is not the same way you would program safe t. Also be prepared to not get the new MECA digital signal as good as you used to on the Analog

If this is the MECA thread, does anyone know why the feed cuts out after only a few minutes? Is anyone else experiencing this--or is it just my PC?

Lots of radio checks today on Meca. I've heard several officers ask Control to check their radio ID.

Indianapolis Police and Fire and Marion County Sheriff, Fire, and EMS:
(includes other city police and fire departments in the county) I see it's Off Line as I write this--maybe when it comes back on line the problem will disappear? Here's hoping.

Oh I had no issues on reception of MECA... I was just curious as to how they are running the new IPL set up in conjunction with the MECA... If they have this kind of mutual aid then I would also expect MECA PS tg's on the IPL P-25... Similar to how Memphis/Shelby County and Memphis power and gas utility are sharing thier systems... It is interesting to say the least. I lived in INDY before this phase started, just moved a few months ago. It was interesting listening to the testing of the MECA P-25 and as IFD/MCFD worked out the SCBA issues....

Encryption

Don't know if anybody else has noticed, but there is lots of encryption in use lately on IMPD talkgroups MET-IN3, MET-SW3, MET-SE3, I think all the "channel 3" talkgroups for each district. Don't think I've heard anything on them in-the-clear for at least two weeks. Think I'm going to have to take them out of my scan lists its getting so annoying.

OK IMPD is encrypting all the Investigations chans... thats CH 3 for each district. If they are encrypting INV3, then I would expect INV1, and INV2 to follow soon.... That makes the list now,... 13 encrypted now? All special ops, narcotics, OCD, now the district investigations, and at least one systemwide investigations... So far all patrol/tac's clear still?

Yes, channels 1 and 2 for each district are still clear, and I would imagine they will remain that way for many reasons. I would also bet that INV1 and possibly 2 will remain in the clear as they are not routinely used for surveillance type operations. Before they went encrypted, I was hearing a lot of surveillance operations that were obviously sensitive in nature and probably should have been encrypted for the safety and integrity of the operation. But there's no reason for them to encrypt the routine day-to-day stuff, even INV1 as it is used by more than just detectives (VA, crime lab, etc.) which I very much doubt will happen. Could be wrong, though.

Oddly enough I have heard surveillance operations being conducted on TRAFFIC 1. I found that most unusual.

I don't know why they labeled traffic as traffic as its a catch all set of tg's.. I heard detectives doing invests, car to car bs, and even the anti gang units using it.... I have heard it reffered to by some units as TASK,... and when they siad go to TASK, they went to that set of tg's... Probably just an hang over from the old set up to maintain simplicity.
