Seems also the USAF AMC is removing some aircraft ID markings due to Ops Sec..
Aviation Week Article is thru paywall but a couple of examples here..
Of course if they remove all of thier markings (including flags), it turns a regular airplane into an unmarked spy airplane...

of course there is a more significant side affect, maintenance is usually (or at least it used to be) dispatched to the tail number of the aircraft, although its parking spot can also be used, maintenance. would check the tail number to verify the correct aircraft, there could be some really interesting maintenance communications for those close enough to receive them. :)

Thanks
Joel

Is potatohead leaving for his trip early? Coming through DC about 1215 I saw the motorcade heading to 295 with traffic screwed up all over the place. Thankfully northbound 295 to 395 was clear. It looked like the MPD helo was flying around high above SEDC.

He was speaking at DHS, motorcade arrived back at the White House at 1:03 p.m.

Okay a couple of points from someone who worked in the aviation industry. Removing the outside identification from the aircraft does not change the maintenance operations that deal with them. What you are removing is the outside appearance of the aircraft (basically while in flight). Once gear doors are open - aircraft identification marks can become visible. There are lots of other ways that maintenance teams and flight operations people coordinate the aircraft. If you are expecting an F16 to show up and a KC135 pulls up to park at the designated spot - you are beyond any physical identification issues with your operations. Common sense applies in most cases.

Another thing is that the US Army apparently has already started compliance with the process a while ago - and the US Army seems to have a good handle on their operational fleet.

Gonna get interesting around KMTN Martin State in the next few days. NOTAM published today shows AIR NATIONAL GUARD RAMP, BASE-WIDE EXERCISE IN EFFECT. USE OF GIANT VOICE AND SMOKE FOR SIMULATION. From March 2 at 630AM L until March 5 at 6PM Local.

Anybody heard of "giant voice"? Is it just a P.A. system?
