GEILENKIRCHEN, Germany - NATO prepares a deployment Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) surveillance planes to Bucharest, Romania. The aircraft are scheduled to arrive on January 17, 2023 and are going to support the Alliance’s reinforced presence in the region and monitor Russian military activity.

Guess that explains two USAF AWACS headed to Europe.

Notice the KECK tankers have dropped down to FL17k.. Must be bumpy aloft.

All refueling has been done at block 16K-19K but still a lot of turbulence which is slowing down the refueling process. I think KECK23 and NOVA15 are still trying to finish refueling.

The ER2 is at 65K per the pilot. HF frequencies in case they get out of range will be 8.825 USB Primary and 6.628 USB Secondary. The HF frequencies are standard NAT HF frequencies and not NASA frequencies.

NASA 806 flew by New Castle tantalizingly close as it headed northeast - but not quite close enough for photos. Keeping an eye out to see how things play out. I'll try to photograph Biden's return to New Castle later today - but the U2 would be more exciting!
