I plan to be at KMRB to see the exercises (see my post from yesterday), probably on Friday but maybe over the weekend, too. This is one of the fields where it is easy to watch MilAir, provided you're really into C-17s. Eight of them are based there and they occasionally do some wild maneuvers over the field, especially at night and unlighted with the field dark. No night flying likely at these exercises, but the ANG press release promises a variety of aircraft, something ordinarily lacking.

If you go, it's best to park next to the little terminal just across the field from the ANG operation. That puts you close to to the runway, next door to a very nice little restaurant and the rest rooms. Freqs are in AirNav. Local ANG aircraft stay on VHF with the tower and use UHF only with their CP. Some of the visitors may use UHF with the tower, I suspect, just out of habit. My wife and I will be in a red Grand Cherokee with N4TX plates.

That's an impressive list. I have my SIRN talk groups on a different scanner and should take that with me when we go to KMRB. Thanks.

One more C-17 for today, DEED154 out of PHL, cleaning up after VP Harris visit to Philadelphia today. I saw AF2 go by earlier but it was only visible for literally two seconds due to clouds - in fact, I only got off a single shot and half the aircraft is in the clouds. This C-17 was more cooperative ;)

Odd midnight local joint Navy.USAF exercise again off San Diego overnight with McGuire KC-46;s Silver,42,43
Grayhawk 22 E-2D,Warlok-2 P-3 from Pax River,E-3,RC-135 and several KC-135's and prob fighters as well.
I think the carrier USS Carl Vinson is also offshore there.
Airscan and myself noticed last week or so all the action offshore San Diego and seems USAF combined the Red Flag 23-3 at Nellis with a Navy COMPUTEX offshore Southern California.for joint exercises.. Good idea!

DECOY-11, an ANG C-17 94-0069, is off KMRB and heading ENE over the bay. Don't know if he's involved in the readiness exercise at KMRB which starts today, but it's likely.

ANG Lakota helo 01172290 departing KMRB at 1321local for VFR local.
