BLUE-81 KC-46 #18-46053 departed Pease enroute EGUN. Not sure if dragging someone.
On Moncton says will deviate West due to wx and then continue Altrav.

NATION-11 KC-135 out of MacDill I think headed for A/R with WANDA-39 RC-135 #62-4139

Yeah Frank those Winged Dodge/Plymouths worked too good as Nascar banned them after Richard Petty
dominated that one year I think was 1970.

We’re parked at KMRB, directly opposite the parked C-17s, to see any of the readiness exercise. So far a bust. One C-17 left before we arrived.

C-17 DECOY-21 landed KMRB with a helo as cargo. Now DECOY-31 landed at 1240L. That makes six C17s on the ground here. I think eight are assigned, but we’ve never seen more than six here. We missed the two A-10s yesterday.

Looks like we’ll be hearing a new name for a familiar special use area.

Last Friday, the NFDD cancelled R6602A, B and C — “Fort Pickett” special use airspace, effective this October 5. The NFDD pretty much just changed the name of R6602A, B, and C to “FORT BARFOOT” used by the Virginia National Guard.

Monday’s NFDD created BARFOOT 1, 2, and 3 MOAs. 1 is 500AGL to 6 thousand; 2 is 500AGL to 10K; 3 is 4K to 10K feet. All comms are to ZDC on 118.75 and 377.1 and are effective on October 5. Fort BARFOOT is the Blackstone area In the southwest corner of Virginia.
I wouldn't say 'southwest corner.' More in a triangle between Richmond, Lynchburg & South Hill. Well east of the state's geographic center.

Nope feel free to start one, though it is kinda talked about here sometimes. If you start one the VA forum would be a good place.
If you start one, I'll monitor it, although info flow on this group seems pretty good. Am hopefully heading down there 8/22 & 8/23 to chase planes, ships & tugboats. Hoping to develop a feel for a 'typical' ATC freq sequence at Oceana, among other things. Here in Richmond, I'm right at the fading range for most of the approach stuff, but can sometimes luck out with Langley Tower if the planes are high enough.

Looking forward to following some individual flights for better understanding. I really miss having the Air Guard here in Richmond!

who in the hell does mid-week airshows? Guess want no one to go. Their paid zone wont be ready..
I have been a few times over the years.. Plenty of folks with day off and beach and boardwalk crowded.
Lighting is tough for pics as usually hazy August skies looking East at mostly Gray mil aircraft traverse offshore. Sort of like OC airshow
prob a better view from a boat offshore.
Later in Day Sun is better when T-Birds do their thing...
This was Blue Angels back in 2006 buzzing thru Hotels.. pretty cool.

I don’t have much, at the moment just COTHEN and USCG SMIBs on 16 and 22A when I’m out on the water.

Couple BLUE tankers up this morn over UK dragging someone Westbound.
BLUE-15 KC-10 #82-0191 going to Bangor
BLUE-16 KC-46 #16-46013 going to Pease.

They are dragging four F-16s from Spangdahlem to Shaw AFB as TABOR 51 flight.
Air-to-air here in NL was <376.075>, boom frequency 344.100.

Soundclip with tailnumbers: TABOR 51 11 Augustus 2023

C-17 RCH623T looks like it took off from Martha's Vinyard and is currently over Atlantic City.

Also KC-135 BLUE17 looks like it has picked someone up and is currently just east of Cape Cod at 23,000ft heading southwest.

Taking the F-16s to Shaw AFB as TABOR 51 flight, now 1815z with Boston center on 128.750.
Think I have them on A/R freq 258.000.. Oldie in my scanner labeled Nantuckett A/R.
Heard BLUE say have a good day! and now seems to be breaking off. No traffic on usual UHF Ctrs so
guess they used VHF for ATC all the way home..

RC-135 WANDA-39 been snooping around down South all day.

DECOY31 departs KMRB at 1437L on an exercise to hunt a destroyer that intel warns will shoot at him. Photo credit: My wife, Kate.

BTW, this is the view from the restaurant window at KMRB. Ramp was full of light singles at lunch time. This is the only airport I know where you can ask Ground Control to taxi to the restaurant and he‘ll clear you.

A Kiowa crew stopped in for lunch at KMRB while we were there.

Then this Pilatus PC-12 parked under the restaurant window and the crew came in for lunch. They’re from Hurlburt Field, FL.

And there’s a crew across the field reassembling a helo that came in midday in the bay of a C-17.

A very nice catch, this is one of the Atlantic boom frequencies, not monitored in 8 years or so ....
They probably didn't change to their CONUS one, and yes they were on VHF frequencies all the way down to Shaw.
