Important to remember other bases that were important. The biggest was in the Philippines, When they were insisting on a billion dollars a year in rent, then Mount Pinatubo erupted and the US decided it wasn't really that important (at the time).

The USN wanted to keep the base at Subic Bay, but the locals wanted us out. The lease was not renewed, and the base closed. My base had some of the displaced sailors join us.

USAF wanted to close Clark AFB, but the locals wouldn't allow an early termination of the lease. The base was heavily damaged by Mt. Pinatubo, then the looting of the base, which allowed the USAF to write it off, due to cost.

Four McGuire RCH KC-46's flying high headed thru Eastern Europe tonight from McGuire.
They can carry cargo ok then stage later as something else.Possibly headed for Eastern Med area.
ACARS also shows a RCH-851 #21-46093. Update: RCH-851 was hiding with RCH-854.

That wasn't my recollection of the Clark situation, I remember it as they wanted a billion a year, we had agreed to something like $750 million, then with the eruption, the situation was resolved for us (minus the loss of one KC-10 which the wing CC lost his job over).

I was initially not very understanding when the evacuees arrived at Travis (I was just there for a short time doing some work), they were all wearing sandals and I thought that was a horrible choice on their part, a co-worker explained that it was because their boots had a little ash in them..

Thanks
Joel

2330 local - At 2220 local RCH851,854 went dark as they entered Turkish airspace. RCH859 is also not showing anymore as it is only a few minutes behind the lead pair. The only visible one left is RCH853 which will go dark within the half hour and continue on with their flight.

MD A-10s heading up the Susquehanna River? 2x TIS-B showing up, ~275kt 900ft. Around 1030 local there was a TIS-B out of KMTN showing over Millville, NJ headed in the direction Warren Grove.

12:24 local COLT-01 flight of two with Pot apch 317,425 at FL-1500 feet VFR says going North of the restricted area Hdg 020.
12:30 asked about aircraft and possible jumpers in the area and No jumpers? We see aircraft climbing up so will rtb Martin State in 10.
Assume they were talking about Aberdeen Proving ground restricted area..
Some years ago Aberdeen course builds Army range target buildings etc in their area and Martin State A-10's would
do some target practicing there at APG for a couple days in a row but haven't heard them do that in a long time..

1440 local N757AF coming North to Pennsylvania
1445 local AF-2 #99-0004 SW bound from Andrews just passed each other :)
