For the Kentucky milair listeners: We have an abundance of military air refueling routes in the state, all of which can be heard from a good distance away. These refuelings usually take place in the FL250-310 range so even with a handheld with a rubber duck you can usually hear them over a good chunk of the state. Activity varies on these routes, so just be patient. Here is a list of the published AR routes and frequencies in our area:

AR111 348.9pri 319.7sec northern Arkansas - south central KY
AR203 238.9pri 319.7sec s/w TN - central KY
AR315 343.25pri 236.65sec n/w KY - central KY - n/e KY
AR455 336.1pri 291.1sec southern IN - northern KY - southern OH

All modes are AM
Also check out R/R under the state listing for Kentucky under Military for additional Air Route Traffic Control frequencies associated with these routes.

Good Monitoring

I forgot to mention in my last post that many times, when you monitor the ATC frequencies associated with ARs, you will hear the tanker a/c use the acronym MARSA. This means Military Assumes Responsibility for Separation of Aircraft. This means that the lead/tanker will assume its own separation from receiver a/c. ATC will clear participating a/c onto the route and will re-establish control once the AR is complete.

Question for all milair listeners in Kentucky, esp the western part of the state:

Is anyone familiar with or have knowledge of a low-level a/a refueling route somewhere ne through nw of Ft Campbell identified as the "Jalapeno route"? Reference to this route has been heard on KHOP frequencies as well as Indy Center. This route has/is being possibly utilized by C130s, KC135s, F18s. Last evening around 2030hrs cst a SALTY 69 was heard heading to the route. A possible AR coordination frequency of 373.55am was also heard. Altitudes being utilized are between 8k-10k. Any insight is welcome.

Acoording to:

http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-IMPACT/2006/August/Day-09/i6790.htm

six AR routes were proposed for Ft. Campbell for use by US Army Helos & USAF aircraft in August 2006. Jalapeno may have been one of those. BTW, the dialcordy web site mentioned on the above page did have additional info, but the password for the FTP site is no longer valid.

For those interested, there is planned military air activity over the Commonwealth this evening, 11/29.

AR111 is scheduled to be active between 1945-2100hrs w/AR frequency of 348.9/bu 319.7
AR315 is scheduled to be active between 1759-1914hrs w/AR frequency of 343.25/bu 236.65

The E8 JSTARs is scheduled for the SPICA orbit (NW-SE KY) between 2000-2300hrs. This orbit lies over the western segment of AR315. Frequencies vary. You might search the 225-380mhz portion of the UHF aero band. (ALL TIMES ARE CENTRAL)

The 178th w/RNLAF were up Wednesday afternoon using 139.9750 and 141.6000 (V8),
I have never seen or heard any Ohio actiivty on 141.650.

By the way, there are only about 12 OH ANG F-16 ac left at Springfield. They have been
leaving a few at a time in accordance with the 2005 BRAC. There are currently 14 aircraft from the RNLAF's 306th and other squadrons.
eventually all F-16s at Springfield will be foreign craft.
