Hi all, I'm new to the forum so please excuse me for asking a possibly novice question.

I reciently pulled out my Radio Shack 800mhz digital scanner that I bought about 5 years ago and tuned it to Selfridge Air National Guard Base's aircraft Approach Freq. I realized that I am only receiving civilian air traffic and not military aircraft.

Anyone know if I need a special scanner to bick up the military planes/frequencies?

Thanks,
Joe

Let's begin with what model number scanner you are using. Then you might also mention the antenna. In the milcom world, the little duckie on handhelds is great for local stuff - say within a mile or two - but beyond that, it falls way short. Most are a rather poor 220-400 mhz antenna - better to say it's a compromise on that band.
