If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone! So I’m trying to program my CDM1550 and I keep getting the error saying it can’t find the radio in the COM port even when I select the correct port that’s stated in device manager. I’m using a programming cable I bought on eBay as well using a windows 7 virtual machine which I assumed was necessary for compatibility purposes . I’ve also installed the prolific driver PL2303 on the vm as well.
Any ideas what I need to do to solve this? Do I need to buy an old Panasonic toughbook?

Here’s a link to the programming cable I bought

Is your radio set up with a remote head? If so, put it back together as a dash mount and try again. The CDM series doesn’t like to be programmed when in a remote configuration.
Also, for what it’s worth, the prolific USB cables are not dependable. An FTDI USB cable should be your first choice.

No it’s not set up as a remote head. And ok got it I’ll get one if I can’t get this one working. With an FTDI Cable, will I still need to run a virtual machine with an older OS or is Window 11 fine?

Which version programming CPS ???
R06.12.09 Is what I use, and R0612.05 I use because I dont have to have an entitlement to use it for wideband if I find an older radio with older firmware. I am using a IOGear RS232 USB converter and an Ebay "octopus" that has a RIB because it still needs a 9V battery..

Ok I got it working! I installed an older version of the prolific driver.

This is the driver I used: Cables & Drivers - Prolific & FTDI
you want to get rid of the prolific cable and get a FTDI cable. bluemax49ers on eBay sells the best cables around. They work every time and the seller will even supply a link to the software needed as long as he has it.
Prolific in a way were sort of banned by Microsoft and they will work for a while not without problems and then one day they will just stop working. It has happened to me with more than 1 cable.

For the longest time this title went to Kawamall, but it appears bluemax49ers have taken the reins.
I have bought countless cables from 49ers and they just simply work. I have over 15 of his cables. And the guy is actually honest, i was buying a cable for a new to me radio and sent him a question about it, he looked i guess in my past orders and told me i already had the cable i needed for the radio to test it out and he was right LOL Any other eBay seller would just have sold me the same cable again with no problem.

You know there is a way around this? they don't offer the entitlement anymore for this CPS regardless of what others say that they do. I tried directly from my moto dealership that is one of the major suppliers and they told me that the entitlement was not available. They were actually the ones that told me how to activate the entitlement.

I'll just get what I can from it and then buy bluemax49er's when that one craps out.
