Evening everyone. New guy checking in.

-I'm Frank.
-I'm in Apex, NC (we're the up-and-coming Cary).
-I just got a new PRO-164 as my first scanner. I have a couple of elderly CB's and a couple of Grundig shortwave radios laying around too.
-I don't yet monitor anything on a daily basis. I don't really know what I'm hearing yet. I'll figure it out eventually.

Good to be here among you.

-Pro-106, I used to listen to my dads scanner and cb when I was a kid. After being in radioshack one day I saw them and found a new hobby.

- I monitor rpd, shp, cary, durham county, orange county, guilford/alamance, wake county, granville county and some vipers and statewide talks. I do alot of highway driving at work and being alone driving - It makes it more fun.

PRO2006, BC147XLT, 7 or 8 various other scanners. Motorola UHF mobile, Motorola VHF mobile both mounted in shack. Kenwood TS-570S, Icom 706MkIIG, Icom 718, MFJ9406, Motorola xts2500 800Mhz walkie. Kenwood 900Mhz mobile, Alinco 6m FM, Radio Shack CB. A shack photo is on QRZ.com under my callsign, my shack is mainly ham as I am very active but am slowly getting back into monitoring. Antennas: 1 G5RV dipole, hexbeam, UHF beam, VHF beam, Lo-VHF beam, longwire for SW, 900Mhz Beam, UHF vertical, VHF vertical.

Listen to mainly fire- (about 15 counties from my location). Sometimes law and med.
Live on hill and overlook about 5 miles of I-40 so I keep a cb in shack to listen when a wreck occurs.

In the house, I stream my friend's site: Outer Banks Air Waves. This covers all of the above, plus fire, and EMS.

My SUV looks like an antenna farm.

~Radios in your shack - Uniden Bearcat BC860XLT base unit with a mod box to run off a +12 VDC car battery in a hurricane - Antenna is a homemade (and indoor use only) discone antenna with a center loaded telescopic antenna on top.

~What do you monitor on a daily basis? - police/sheriff/SHP, fire/rescue, aeronautics, marine, NOAA weather, LoJack tones.

Since I live in a high hurricane area. I am very interested in frequencies related to emergency management, utilities (electric, natural gas, phone company, cable tv), disaster preparation / relief, American Red Cross, evacuation shelters, television station communications from camera van to station. I have found in the past that all the public information is known hours in advance before it is announced on television/radio.

Edenton NC (Chowan County actually)

Monitor Chowan, Edenton, and all surrounding areas on VIPER and Conventional PD and FD's. Looking for NC Forestry Service in my area freqs. I put all from Radioreference in my scanner but have never heard anything on any of them (VHF Hi band or low band both). I even went to 2 local offices hoping to see a radio license posted.

Moved to NC in 2000, I am in Craven County just outside Havelock.

Only a pro-94(for now) with an added antenna.
~What do you monitor on a daily basis?
Everything I can pick up especially FD/PD/EMS for Craven, Carteret, Jones, and Pamlico counties, plus any towns or cities within them, and MCAS Cherry Point.

I do want to add what a great site RR is and I plan on using it much more.

Hi all

Hi all. Thought I would check in.

~Rodney
~Dunn & Benson, NC
~None at this time. My older scanners got lost in the move from NC to GA a couple of years ago, so looking to get back into monitoring FD and EMS for Harnett & Johnston Co.
~Mostly Wake Co. EMS and Raleigh PD.

I live in the Dunn and Benson area, but work in Raleigh. Will look to replace my scanners later in the year.

Welcome Rodney! Good to have you with us.
Harnett County Public Safety operates off of a mostly analog EDACS system that can be monitored with most midrange scanners. Johnston County is a whole other situation with very little that can be monitored on their system.
And a digital capable scanner will be needed to monitor any Wake County agencies such as Raleigh PD, EMS/Fire.
The Wiki linked at the top of the page is a great source of info along with all of
the well informed people we have here in the NC Forum.
Welcome back to the hobby!
Happy Monitoring

Just checking in also. Since the move, have not had too much time to scan and reprogramming is a pain. I have been hand reprogramming my PSR300 just to get the feel of it. Sometime soon will rejoin as paid sub and reprogram the BCT 15 and 796D the easy way!
